Dean deserves much praise for his cocaine "truthieness" statement!

Last edited Sat Oct 1, 2016, 09:19 PM - Edit history (2)

Dr. Dean clarified to say that he knew he was dealing in innuendo, that it was wrong to do so, but that Trump does it repeatedly and the press has let him get away with it, widely repeating the outrageous statements he makes. Now the press is calling him to task for his outrageous statements and that is very appropriate.

But Dean's pointing out Trump's weapon of choice -- baseless innuendo -- is extraordinarily helpful because the media was simply not doing so. They were acting as a transcription service (as they regularly do for the Republican party) and were printing his lies as if they were true.

Trump lies as easily as he breath, as often as he views himself as better than anyone else and thereby deserving to be the autocratic ruler of this country. At this point he is well beyond parody,

But so does the Republican party lie with every breath, level baseless accusations (e.g., against Hillary, Obama, Obama-care, against achieving an agreement with Iran or the importance of tackling c!instead change, etc.) the American public has been fed a steady diet of poison for decades.

Go Dean! We need more truth-tellers!

1. Sorry Dean neutered himself

Was a stupid line of attack that only idiots would buy into and it made Dean look like a fool.

His excuse is nonsense as well. I did it to point out how Trump gets away with it only makes the case that he is as big of a dirt bag as Trump.

I love Dean but he has not been great in this case in fact I would say he has not been great this season. He used to be someone to tell truth to power he seems to have lost that completely this season in favor of spinning like your average political top. It really has been disappointing to see him this go around.

My problem starts when he started pretending the cocaine this was credible.

It just isn't.and it makes Dean easy to dismiss as a loon.

There are literally hundreds of legitimate things to hit Trump over the head with picking false narratives allows people to dismiss legitimate ones.

As well as the baseless allegation that she has brain damage.

As well as the baseless allegation that she sleeps all the time.

It goes on and on. I think Dean was riffing off all that nonsense that the media paid no price for.

This, not just Dean. He gave the story some legitimacy, but that was a huge question that everyone was asking.

And there was no legitimacy. It distracts from. The legitimate stories.

The only people that would buy into that garbage is people who already hate Trump.

8. I absolutely disagree. I think not only do we benefit by being aware of the "garbage"

that innuendos bring about, but also the people we talk to should be aware of it as well. If we do not inform ourselves of such matters--often and loudly--we will forget that this is what can happen. Also, we clearly have to remind others, including the press, that "when there is smoke, there is smoke."

One of my good friends never ever employs sarcasm. She is an educator and works with children, and is very intelligent, but she grew up in us very straight-forward family. And I applaud her for that. But I am not sure that I would call on her to make the best and strongest argument against a real danger like Trump.if one is taking on Trump, I want the accuser to have all available tools at his/her disposal. Including: sarcasm, satire, offering items that are embarrassing to the target, and repeating them endlessly.

I do think that too many Americans are willing to believe the swill that Donald Trump in the Republicans are willing to dispense for the pieces of gold given to them by the top 1%.

If we don't point this out to another people, Trump has a good chance of winning the election.

9. Trump has no chance at winning the election

Hillary would have to drop dead for it to happen he has not ever been close at any point despite the histrionics.

Yes he has had a disturbingly high level of support but it never been close to enough to win the election. Not once.

Making stuff up is Trump's game the second we start doing it we become vulnerable.

A big part of why Clinton is not running away with this is because she has a high level of distrust in the electorate. Everything we do that advances that idea plays into Trump's hand.

Making up nonsense about Trump doing cocaineakes it easy to buy into the crooked Hillary argument.

Trump has so many legitimate scandals to go after why in the world would it be smart to start making things up.

It was stupid and embarrassing that Dean would even think of doing it.

11. The hell with you and the horse you rode in on! Trump has a much greater than zero chance of winning
Sat Oct 1, 2016, 07:02 PM

and that is far, far too great a chance to take for granted.

You did not read what Howard Dean said in explaining why he said what he said?

What about his explanation don't you agree with?

I sure agree with Michael Moore--if we think he has lost and we were relax and take it easy, then he has truly won!

If you think there is no chance that he can win, I can point out the rest of the Democratic Underground that think, unfortunately, he has a hell of a chance. And that's why the rest of us are worried. Just as the people in Germany should've been worried about Hitler taking power. Or the people in the Philippine Islands should've been concerned about their current president, Dedarte, taking power.

Trump has no chance of winning?

Never has had a chance. Despite what "DU thinks"

Show me one credible path to his victory. One... Good luck! You can even use any point in the election cycle you want.

I will stick with the guy who wins elections.

Axelrod calls on Dean to apologize for suggesting Trump uses cocaine

“My reaction, that was outrageous,” Obama's former campaign strategist said in an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer. “He, like Donald Trump, has refused to apologize for an outrageous statement. He really should.”

Howard Dean apologizes for cocaine tweet, but says Trump should be called out more

Howard Dean is sorry for suggesting that Donald Trump used cocaine. But he demanded America’s news media apologize for not calling out Trump's own dangerous use of innuendo.

“And so I apologize for using innuendo,” Dean told MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle Friday morning. “I don't think it's a good thing to do. I don't think it's the right thing to do. This entire campaign has been debased by innuendo.”

He made an observation and asked a question. Absolutely nothing wrong with that and then pointed out it was a tactic
much employed by the Trump camp.

I am all in favor of giving Trump a dose of his own medicine.

7. I hope this will make Trump and all the lying Republicans (not all are lying, some are
Sat Oct 1, 2016, 03:01 PM

in a coma or are asleep) be more fact-based! (Dr. Dean's ongoing diagnoses of this malady in Republicans and in the press can help!)

Remember when Colbert at the 2006 White House Correspondent's Dinner during the W. Bush administration called the press for being "transcriptionists" for Bush?

He said to the press:

"But the rest of you, what are you thinking, reporting on NSA wiretapping or secret prisons in eastern Europe? Those things are secret for a very important reason: they're super-depressing. And if that's your goal, well, misery accomplished.

"Over the last five years you people were so good -- over tax cuts, WMD intelligence, the effect of global warming. We Americans didn't want to know, and you had the courtesy not to try to find out. Those were good times, as far as we knew.

"But, listen, let's review the rules. Here's how it works: the president makes decisions. He's the Decider. The press secretary announces those decisions, and you people of the press type those decisions down. Make, announce, type. Just put 'em through a spell check and go home. Get to know your family again. Make love to your wife. Write that novel you got kicking around in your head. You know, the one about the intrepid Washington reporter with the courage to stand up to the administration. You know - fiction!"

************************

In essence Colbert said, "He says it, you transcribe it -- duty done!" Such dereliction of duty by the press lead directly to the Iraq Invasion, with the awful Judith Miller writing down and publishing what Cheney told her.

And the press still does not report the facts about how the Republicans have lied about Obama, Obama-care, trickle-down economics, the importance of government in our lives, climate change, teh bloated military budget, etc.

And maybe when Trump and the Republicans lie, maybe they can refer to it as Trumpian, or ".5 on the Trump scale for lies!"
