My hope is that Trump goes so far off the rails that is literally scares the living shit out of everyone. And it silences and just totally stuns his supporters. I want to see the biggest GOP blow up in history. That would make may day. Maybe is would make my life.
The GOP is now so bad that we cannot live with them anymore. Their policies would be so devastating to this country if enacted. And they have done severe damage to this country already since Reagan.

And I agree with everything else you've said here.

(111,245 posts)They were a top-down rich man's party beloved by miserable skinflints who thought legless men should still pull themselves up by their bootstraps. The Tea Party Archies and religious lunatics will no longer be courted. The police unions will still love them. The NRA, not so much, since rich men don't particularly want a heavily armed population. They got into power in the past by being pro business and strict law'n'order. They'll be the party of good economic times. In bad times, Democrats will always be elected to clean up after them.
I know Trump represents all the devils they made deals with taking over. Either the traditional kingmakers and power brokers will abandon the party to the rabble and take over another splinter party or they'll change the rules so the rabble have no say. In the past, the party has been abandoned to the various devils, which is why we no longer have a Federal Party or a Whig Party.
Something does have to happen. Government by a madman leading a mob is unconscionable and that's what they'll present us with from now on.

Many states must depend on the "drafting" effect of the Democratic national ticket. The GOPers have comparatively little need for this, as they have strong local/stste organizations.
