He's strenuously trying to assist Pence. Begging him to listen.
Chris Matthew's job is to present a wide range of views and ideas. He is insufferable but his influence isn't that great. After all, cable news shows measure their audiences in relatively small numbers.
Regardless, we all share the same passion to beat the Republicans.
