Oregon bakers who wouldn’t make lesbian wedding cake post closure notice

http://www.lgbtqnation.com/2016/10/oregon-bakers-wouldnt-make-lesbian-wedding-cake-post-closure-notice/

The Christian-owned bakery that refused to make a cake for a same-sex wedding in Oregon posted a closure notice on Thursday to their Facebook page....

They raised a record amount on fundraising platform Continue to Give from supporters, bringing in over $350,000.

The Bowman-Cryers discussed the pain of the situation in interviews with The Oregonian and The Advocate. They spoke about the hate mail they received, and even read some of it in an interview produced by The Oregonian.

The Kleins read mean Tweets speaking out against them in late 2015 in a video produced by The Daily Signal.

The want to freely express themselves by not baking cakes for certain people.

Customers want to freely express themselves by not patronizing their bakery.

So I guess while the business model doesn't scale, at least one baker can make a payday off refusing service for bigoted reasons. Thus the closing is kinda bittersweet.

They discovered that being a right-wing grifter is not only less work than actually doing stuff, it's more lucrative.

They expressed their "rights." And their potential customers expressed their right to not buy their baked goods.

They got away with their behavior. $350k. A married couple is only going to pay the maximum tax rate on a small portion of that. They're going to make a quarter million for behaving like jerks.

This isn't quite the schadenfreude i would hope to experience.
