Poland: Up to 6 Million Women Protest Proposed Abortion Ban = democracynow.org
In Poland, as many as 6 million women poured into the streets for a nationwide protest Monday opposing proposals to completely ban abortions across Poland. Already by law, Polish women are only allowed to access an abortion if the child is the result of rape or incest, or if their lives are in danger as a result of the pregnancy. But the new proposed laws would make all abortions illegal and punishable by up to five years in prison for patients who obtain them. Doctors could also be jailed for providing abortions. The Catholic Church in Poland is supporting the proposed ban.

Polish parliament rejects near-total abortion ban after protests
Following protests by tens of thousands of women, Polish lawmakers on Thursday rejected plans for a near-total ban on abortion, in a hastily arranged vote that marks the first major domestic setback for the conservative government.
The ruling Law and Justice party (PIS) unexpectedly withdrew its support for draft proposals drawn up by an independent anti-abortion campaign group after an unscheduled parliamentary committee meeting late on Wednesday.
"PiS continues to back the protection of life," party leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski, a devout Catholic, told parliament. "And it will continue to take action in this respect but it will be considered action." .............

(16,104 posts)1. Women worldwide are standing up for their individual rights!
I trust government that acknowledges our rights, not doles them out on an election whim.
We don't eliminate a woman's right to reproductive freedom based on what party is in charge - fundamental human rights should have no party affiliation.
Although liberal progressivism does tend to expand individual rights.
And conservatives tend to roll back our rights as a means of control.

(15,262 posts)2. Trump/Pence want to undo Roe v. Wade and punish women. They should pay attention to this.
We'd have 10 million women in the streets here ion a heartbeat.
