Cruise ships delay return to Florida as Matthew roars closer
Gene Sloan , USA TODAY 5:34 p.m. EDT October 5, 2016

At least four cruise ships scheduled to return to Florida over the next two days instead will remain at sea as they steer clear of Hurricane Matthew.

Cruise giant Carnival on Wednesday said the 2,052-passenger Carnival Sensation won't arrive back in its home port of Miami until Friday, a day behind schedule.

Also returning to Miami on Friday, a day behind schedule, will be Royal Caribbean's 1,840-passenger Empress of the Seas, the line announced Wednesday. A second Royal Caribbean ship, the 2,350-passenger Majesty of the Seas, will return to its home port of Port Canaveral, Fla., on Saturday, also a day behind schedule.

Also returning to Port Canaveral on Saturday instead of Friday will be Disney Cruise Line's 2,500-passenger Disney Dream, the line announced Wednesday. Disney has canceled the ship's next voyage, which had been scheduled to start on Friday.

Unless, the cruise ships and the airlines are in sync..could that be..I highly doubt it - but then, air traffic, I'm sure, will be interrupted as well...depending on the force of the storm and the inland reach...up and down the east coast..be well ALL..

If they booked through the cruise ship company a lot of them have flight guarantees and will pay for new tickets etc. Someone who didn't probably out of luck.

Its not too difficult to get a boat out of the way of a hurricane. There is plenty of notice to reroute ship.

Even if you cancel the cruise they are going to keep a few people on board to take it somewhere out of the path of the hurricane.

those cruise ships go 30 knots, probably. If one got caught, the captain is an idiot.

If they graduate at the bottom of the class with a 'D' average they'll still call them 'doctor', or in this case, 'captain'.

...to not do this.

Yeah, if I were the captain, I would definitely make sure my ship was elsewhere when the storm hits.

Not a sailor or anything (other than cruises), but there's so much interesting information, a real time sink.

There's many boats tracked nearly everywhere, but there's not many around SW Australia in the area where MH370 is believed to have crashed.

They're on their way to Nova Scotia with bikinis and sunscreen.

Some adjusted iteneraries. One cancelled cruise.

Offering partial refunds or cancellation opportunities, and helping those oboard handle adjusted travel schedules.

I'm a big DCL fan and if the reports continue like this I will have a lot of confidence in booking at this time of year.

Of course I'm in FL and don't have to mess with flights...
