Former Aide Takes Back Christie 'Flat out Lied' Comments
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS NEWARK, N.J. Oct 6, 2016, 6:00 PM ET
A former staffer to Gov. Chris Christie says she used a bad choice of words in a text message claiming that the governor was lying about his knowledge of the George Washington Bridge lane-closing scandal.
Christina Renna testified Thursday in the criminal trial of two former allies of the Republican governor. She said she texted the comments based on information she says she was told by one of the co-defendants. She said she had no knowledge of whether the governor was lying.
Renna's text message said Christie "flat out lied" when he denied his senior staff and campaign manager were involved in the lane closings. The text was released in August as part of a legal filing.
Christie at the time called the text ridiculous.
