At the press conference, Trump would solemnly pledge that on Inauguration Day, January 20, he will, only minutes after taking his oath of office, step aside by invoking the presidential disability provisions of Section Three of the Amendment much as he might step aside if he were undergoing a scheduled coronary bypass that day. He will give notice on Inauguration Day to the president pro tempore of the Senate and the speaker of the house that he is "unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.
Even if Trump initially resists taking the pledge, House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Leader Mitch McConnell can force Trumps hand by threatening to retract their endorsements of him unless he pledges to flip. Pence himself could also threaten to quit, in advance of the election, unless Trump takes the deal. "

(50,986 posts)flip. I think it is going to lose, not flip.
I think Donald J. Trump is fully astride the missile at this point. Eee-haw!

(2,795 posts)If he does, he is admitting he isn't fit to be the president. If he just loses the election, he's got all sorts of things to blame and excuses why he didn't win. None of which would have anything to do with him.

(2,795 posts)I knew he would run as a third party if he didn't get the nomination, even though he "signed the pledge".

(17,427 posts)I'm sure all the parties involved (including the Hubric Cheeto and the electorate) know he doesn't always keep deals. I don't think that the flip would happen. I think it is more likely that they are gathering impeachment evidence as I type for use it he can't be handled by them.
Also, in my opinion, they wouldn't win with a flipped ticket.

(2,795 posts)You would probably lose a lot of the rabid, racist, bigots if that happened. They'd be hopping mad!
But they might gain a lot of christians that are disgusted by Trump and maybe even some moderates, even though Pence is nothing close to moderate. But not many people know him enough. Many only know that calm, reasonable, presidential looking ghost man at the VP debate.

(23,933 posts)for better or for worse, registered voting republicans elected tRump as the idiot they wanted to head up their ticket this fall
the "ticket flip" puts someone who wasn't even in their primary at the top of the ticket
i don't think the base would tolerate it, nor should they
