Things can change, and they can change rapidly, but it appears that Hurricane Matthew's path is shifting at least slightly farther away from the coast. Some weakening, too.

(5,931 posts)I'm hoping that it will be less than forecast previously, given that Florida continues to be on the weaker side of the storm, and that the center appears to be moving slightly away from the coast. Just a few 10s of miles makes a big difference.

(3,829 posts)I just saw that on Orlando WESH 2 which is streaming their storm coverage. I'm watching it on my phone in an overflowing rest area near Tallahassee.
The news had the cat 4 eye going over my house earlier.

(9,082 posts)In what might eventually be more a psychological blow than a meteorological one, there's a decent chance that Hurricane Matthew could loop back full circle for a second, unwelcome visit to South Florida next week.
