There was an online-poll.

"Do you think President Obama ordered the U.S. military to engineer a hurricane for the sole purpose of destroying Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate?"

43% said Yes.
17% said "It's possible, but I'd need to see more evidence."
40% said No.

----------------

This a perfect example for conspiracy-theories. Why People WANT to believe in conspiracy-theories.

Because they make you important.

They are nobodies, but if this conspiracy-theory is true, they are suddenly important. They are Chosen Ones. They are heroes.

If the hurricane is an impersonal force of nature, then it doesn't care about who you are because you are a nobody.
But if Obama engineered the hurricane, then the hurricane has a purpose and a motive: Attacking your hero. And by proxy you are suddenly important: The cover-up exists to fool you. You. There is suddenly a relationship between the big bad guys and you. Which makes you automatically the hero in this story.

have a hard time accepting that random fucked-up stuff happens sometimes for no particular rhyme or reason. In a strange way, the conspiracy theories give them a sense that everything, even a destructive act of nature like a hurricane, has a purpose. It gives them comfort.
