They were friends from the 1920s until they died in the mid 60s and early 70s and while they only ever claimed to be friends even as a child I could see there was a special bond between the two of them. As professional women who never married they had to appear to be "normal" especially in those days.

My great aunt is on the left in the photo which was taken about 1965.
