I do wish Michelle Obama would run for political office - then maybe the presidency.

I know she has no interest, and I respect that, but I think her voice is just so important.

Sadly, far too many good people have opted out of running for office and we're ceding our political world to the bad people - the people whose voice is toxic, hateful and divisive. People like Donald Trump.

It's not fair to say, but I'll say it: America needs Michelle Obama. They need her voice and her values and her fight. She's got the mix of star power and political prowess that just isn't often seen.

Which is why I wish she'd reconsider and run for Senate or even Governor in the coming years.

If we had more people like Michelle Obama in office, our political system would be so much richer.

Alas, more and more of these people lately have decided to not run.

I think Michelle Obama would be more useful as the head and spokesperson of a major nonprofit, something like the Gates Foundation, that helps women and children.

Those dynasties gave us two of the most admired and respected presidents ever - and two of the most influential families in either the founding, or early establishing, of our country.

I don't think it should be a qualification or a disqualification either way.

Or related in any way.

When I think political dynasties I think blood relatives.

Roosevelts, Kennedys, Bushes.

Roosevelts and Kennedys were good people, Bushes not so much.

But neither Hillary or Michelle are blood relatives of their husband's families, so to me does not fit the classic definition. YMMV

She has worked for eight years for NO DAMN PAY in one of the most high-pressure internships in the world. She's not baking cookies and singing Tammy Wynette songs, either.

She took full advantage of the platform she was offered, she has garnered the experience and understands how the town works, and she is as ready as anyone to do the work.

Now, if she doesn't want to do it, that's another thing. But if she does, I'd donate to her campaign.

Eleanor Roosevelt
Lady Bird Johnson never gets the credit she deserves as a political mentor
Rosalyn Carter
Hillary Clinton soon to be President
Michelle Obama-the most potent voice in this election cycle

even Jackie Kennedy is considered a model of sophistication and grace

Here's to the (First) Ladies!!! What a testament to our Democratic Presidents that they gravitated to these strong women

...of the Democratic Party.

When I think what I want to be as a Democrat; I think of her.

She was, in my view, greater than her husband; although her times prevented her from reaching her full potential.

She got the Universal Declaration of Human Rights through the UN; and were we to honor it in practice rather than breech, well, life for all human beings would be infinitely better.

If she chooses to be politically active after they leave the WH, I hope she will do it as an unencumbered private citizen. She would have way more flexibility in how she wants to direct her energy and her voice.

Just like anyone else, Michelle would have senate and party leadership to answer to as a senator. She has more to offer and more integrity than it allows.

The reason the senate is such a mess right now is because people like Michelle Obama aren't running. Instead, we give it to the people there to not enact change but either actively work against it or collect a paycheck.
