11 reasons why Hippies (not psychos) should rule the world!

Don’t be fooled. The status quo is delusional. When it comes to what really matters, what you feel in your marrow is usually right. And on this note, hippies aren’t really “hippies.” That’s just what we’ve been called to disenfranchise us from sanity and to promote the misdeeds of the fake world powers.

Everyone, really, is a hippie, just beneath whatever very recent modern disguises we’ve taken on. For each of us, by the mere fact of waking and walking, on some level loves trees for their oxygen they give, the sun and soil for our food, the rain and rivers for our water. It’s just that hippies are more conscious of these facts, more gracious and therefore (more) stewarding of all that makes us whole.

In truth, we are the true CEOs of our planet’s future, not the current psychos in charge. Because money is useless with nothing to buy, no plants or millions of other species left to love and fascinate, nurture and support us. The new currency is wholeheartedness, justice, courage, and respect — as it always has be

1) We sit under, lie under, wrap our arms around, and feel praise in the presence of trees and other non-humans, sharing our love with the most loving things on the planet.

2) We sit around more than others — helping slow down the mad rush to the end — and have the kinds of conversations that the stars, daffodils, and the moon enjoy.

3) We wear clothes with holes and stains and it’s okay. In fact, it’s more than okay because it slows capitalism, the great Earth-crusher.

i'm sure if it was kill or be killed, they wouldn't have a problem. Killing for any other reason, not likely.

Most of my friends who can be characterized as hippies are absolute pacifists. The application of military power to a problem is simply an idea that is anathema.

And I'm not an "absolute pacifist."

I just recognize that aggression breeds more aggression and violence breeds more violence. I will always want to restrict "using the military" to the last resort to save lives in immediate danger.

But I think you just acknowledged that a nation state has a right to a legitimate use of force. The question is, for most of us, what is the trigger for such use?

But I have many friends who argue (to my mind incoherently) that there is never an appropriate time for force.

The only legitimate use of force is to defend a direct attack happening right now. As far as nation states go, that means you can use force to end another nation's attack. And it means that you are using force against those attacking, not the entire nation state.

Force should never be used to "punish" or to force others to do what you want them to politically or economically, which is what our military has been repeatedly used for.

From April to July 1994, members of the Hutu ethnic majority in the east-central African nation of Rwanda murdered as many as 800,000 people, mostly of the Tutsi minority.

So that's none of the West business? Just let it happen, look the other way?

If Germany hadn't attack other countries and only fed Germans into the ovens that's no ones else's problem either?

Did they ask for help fending off that attack? Was there a way to protect them without using the military?

Those are the questions that need to be addressed any time a use of military force is contemplated.

If someone is standing next to me, in front of me, within my direct reach, and they are attacked, I'm not going to stop to ask. I'm going to act.

I'll defend. For me, that means I'll step between the attacker and the victim, block the attack, and call for help to restrain the attacker.

When it comes to nations, it's a different story. I'll do my advocating at the UN, whose job it is to defend citizens from their own government when necessary. I'll support all kinds of things to do so; and military force, as always, will be a last resort.

The Purposes of the United Nations are:

To maintain international peace and security, and to that end: to take effective collective measures for the prevention and removal of threats to the peace, and for the suppression of acts of aggression or other breaches of the peace, and to bring about by peaceful means, and in conformity with the principles of justice and international law, adjustment or settlement of international disputes or situations which might lead to a breach of the peace;
To develop friendly relations among nations based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples, and to take other appropriate measures to strengthen universal peace;
To achieve international co-operation in solving international problems of an economic, social, cultural, or humanitarian character, and in promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and for fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language, or religion; and
To be a centre for harmonizing the actions of nations in the attainment of these common ends.

Guns are a crappy tool for solving any problem.

Once the guns come out everything is FUBAR.

My ancestors ended up in the American Wild West because many of them were pacifists who wouldn't take up arms against their fellow man. They were dodging wars in Europe, a few were dodging the Civil War in the U.S..

One of my grandfathers was a conscientious objector during World War II. He wouldn't take up arms, but he did choose to build and repair Liberty and Victory ships over prison when his number came up.

We joke in our family we are pacifists by necessity; the berserker genes are strong in us.

My wife's dad was a combat medic and my own dad was a nearsighted "Radar O'Reilly" medical clerk.

In my own life I've been in many rough situations, including a few with people shooting at one another, or people threatening me with a gun, and not once would the outcomes have been improved had I myself been holding a gun. That's not because I'm incapable or inexperienced with guns.

I think it's really sad that people keep and carry guns thinking they'll be heroes someday. Guns turn ordinary human conflicts into tragedies.
