(82,849 posts)When our country used to think that such a wound to the United States shouldn't be politicized. We don't do that anymore, at least as far as practically anything can be used to knuckle Democrats. Heck 28 dead people in Newtown, Connecticut (including 20 children) wasn't enough for some people to exercise the gift of respectful silence.

Don't forget that Jimmy Carter cowardly let Americans be captured in Iran, of which they survived and came home later. But Reagan bravely sent Americans to die in Beirut. Reagan was so brave and fierce, that he released the Iranian hostages on his inauguration day because he's so tough.
I remember a Republican telling me in 2011 how Reagan was so tough for kicking Gaddafi's ass and that Obama was so cowardly for sending in seal team 6 to secretly kill bin laden. This was while Obama was bombing Libya.
Don't forget that Republicans live in an alternate reality.

(10,715 posts)241 american dead, mostly marines. The worst day for them since Iwo Jima, I've read. They were under orders not to have bullets in their guns, so they couldn't respond before the bombs went off.
Reagan called it "despicable", but didn't respond at all otherwise - no counter-attacks, no reprisals, just an ignominious retreat. Officially the reason was they never figured out for sure what happened.
