54. When the Southern states seceded in 1860 and 1861, they did not leave in order of their geographic location, economic standing political qualities, or level of industrialization. They left in almost the exact order of their percentage of slaves.

Doing some quick math, that means our of 65 Union troops, 16 died during the war, but only one of those 16 died in combat. IOW, 15 out of 16 died from camp fever, transportation accidents, suicide, or in hospital from infection. Ditto for the 10 out of 11 Rebel fatalities who died in ways other than in the heat of battle.
