48 hours. The Republicans timed this well.
As I understand it Departments of the Federal government have 48 hours to respond to Congressional inquiries. Comey mentioned in his letter "your Committees" so this could very well have resulted from requests by the Republican chairs of Congressional committees (all headed by Republicans) on Wednesday.
They timed this right. IF what I stated is the case.
The details of this new thing don't matter as much as what information voters receive in their short attention span window. See below.
