than most people realize.
There are specific landmarks that Homeland Security has determined to be prime targets for terrorists. The George Washington Bridge is one of them and has been since 2001. Christie and his office had to have known this.
The Sept 11 anniversary was occurring and Homeland Security has determined the anniversary date to be a trigger for attacks. Christie and his office had to have known this.
Christie and his hate-filled team let that landmark bridge and its entrance and exit lanes, determined to be a target for terrorism, get jammed up with school busses to ambulances, truck drivers to carpool moms, businessmen and women to couriers, and everything in between. For hours. For days. Including Sept. 11.
There should be additional charges filed against these soul-less traitors, imo.

after all, the idea was to punish fort lee, not everyone who uses the bridge.
that said, this is based on a vague recollection; i could be wrong.

(113,039 posts)Just seems that any unusual traffic around that time was asking for additional trouble and upping the danger quotient.

(52,181 posts)The problems began on Monday, September 9, 2013, when two of three toll lanes for a local street entrance were closed during morning rush hour. Local officials, emergency services, and the public were not notified of the lane closures, which Fort Lee declared a threat to public safety.[6] The resulting back-ups and gridlock on local streets ended only when the two lanes were reopened on Friday, September 13, 2013, by an order from Port Authority Executive Director Patrick Foye. He said that the "hasty and ill-informed decision" could have endangered lives and violated federal and state laws.[7]
During rush hours, for the previous 30 years or longer,[35](p86) the three lanes located furthest to the right (the south end of the toll plaza) were ordinarily reserved for local traffic entering from Fort Lee and the surrounding communities.[4] This local traffic was segregated by movable traffic cones from the heavier traffic of the major highways.[36] There were other Fort Lee street entrances, which did not have dedicated toll lanes, to the lower and upper levels of the bridge.

so, yes, it did create problems in fort lee, including problems for emergency vehicles, etc. but it wouldn't have added to traffic on the bridge itself.

Ten people have been arrested after a group of protesters appeared to chain themselves to the eastbound lane of the George Washington Bridge during Wednesdays morning rush-hour commute. The demonstration blocked traffic on the upper level and ignited delays of over an hour for those trying to get into and out of New York.
