Republicans represent a dying way of life.

Last edited Wed Nov 2, 2016, 01:33 PM - Edit history (2)

Change is inevitable. As human beings we'd be a lot happier we'd learn to accept that. It is so difficult though that a lot of people only change when they are forced to do so.

When Donald Trump says "make America great again", he's referring to a fantasy that some white men and women have in their heads about a completely homogenized country of people who all believe the same thing, and they're in charge of course. Kinda like the 1950s. Except that's not possible. Ever.

What we're witnessing is the painful death, the last gasps of a mindset that depends on fear (manifested as hate), using division and exploitation to manipulate people to fight each other. It may look somewhat bleak right now but I feel we must go through this as a nation to expose and deal with the ugliness that has been lurking in the background for so long. The Republicans themselves are coming to the realization that they cannot survive as they are.

They are being hit square in the face with the invetibility of change. Each day closer to November 8 makes them sweat a little bit more. So - Republicans are doing everything possible to keep it from happening, even if it means electing (by any means necessary) a man who will do great damage to this country.

I'm confident they won't win. The clearer heads of the GOP will silently vote for Hillary.

When that happens and Hillary wins resoundingly, change will be upon them, whether they like it or not.

I think that's what we'll see when all is said and done. As much as 20 percent of Republicans may vote for Hillary.

What was the Civil War about? It was about slavery but not because slavery was a great evil. That was a side issue.

The Whig Party split over the fact that Northern Whigs didn't want slavery in the territories, because it diminished the value of their labor. They formed the Republican Party not out of any benevolence but rather out of their own self interest.

Today we have the value of labor being eroded by technology, among other things, and we have a whole group of people who have no idea what to do about it pointing their fingers and directing their anxieties to the easiest targets. You think that's going to stop?

We are all in a dying way of life. The question is whether we who believe in logic and reason can prevail.

Also agree we are all in a dying way of life. So yeah, the alternative to logic and reason prevailing isn't something I want to spend time thinking about.

It's those who visualize and want to work for a better future who will move the nation forward. So for now, for today, I'm visualizing election night and Hillary winning by significant numbers.

A.modern economy is two thirds consumer spending. What happens as we can produce more and more services with fewer and fewer people?

There has to be a different way of doing things and if it that doesn't happen, everything crumbles.

Demographers predict that whites will become a minority in the US in 2042. Hispanics will be in the majority.

I'll be old and quite possibly dead, but I think this is fine. After all, this is America. Not white America. Not Hispanic America. Not Asian America. Not African-American America. You get the idea. The list goes on. Sure, the founding fathers could never have imagined this, but so what?

The upholding of our Constitution and democratic principles. I could care less what race ends up the majority, so long as this is done.

It's the only way the United States of America will survive.

There's no reason to think the United States of America can or even should survive. Or that Constitutions and democratic principles should be upheld forever. Change is inevitable.

And the 1950's aren't coming back economically for the Left.
