Libby Chamberlain says she will honor her presidential pick, Hillary Clinton, on Election Day with more than a vote. She also plans to wear a pantsuit.
Ms. Chamberlain, 33, has also recruited thousands of others who are hoping to see the election of the first female U.S. president.
A private Facebook group she created dubbing Nov. 8 as National Pantsuit Day has drawn more than 400,000 members in two weeks. On the page, the invitation-only members trade stories about their admiration for the Democratic nominee and discuss plans to sport their own version of Mrs. Clintons signature campaign-trail attire.
There is a literal pantsuit thing happening, which does involve shopping for some and rummaging around in closets for others, Ms. Chamberlain said. But so much more important is the idea that we can take this symbol of feminism and the struggle for equality and own it. Literally wear it to the polls.

(39,313 posts)It doesn't look like a pantsuit. The colors and materials of the top and bottom are different and the pants are a jeans cut.
Sorry, but she could have gone all out for the real pantsuit look for this to work.

(4,112 posts)women do. I wear pantsuits to work nearly every day. So do most of my female colleagues. Pantsuits are convenient, professional, easy dressing. Walk around NYC (or most cities) and you'll see them everywhere. I'll be wearing a pantsuit when I vote on Tuesday, but I'll also wear one on Monday, Thursday and Friday. I have a closet full of them. Taking Wednesday off, to either celebrate or weep in my wine. Hoping desperately for the former. Will probably be wearing jeans and a sweater, either way.

What's not to like. Unless you think all women should be Stepford wives wearing dresses all the time. Women have always had more options than we men do. Works for me.

(4,112 posts)It's always made me laugh that the vast majority of women on TV (news/talk shows) seem to wear dresses and skirts. I've worked in the business world for better than 30 years, and it's far more rare to see women wearing that than pantsuits, or just nice trousers and a sweater or blouse of some kind. Summer is a little different, but my colleagues and I still tend to go with lightweight fabrics in pantsuit form. Practicality is the name of the game. Even when I was 25 and had killer legs, I still preferred the pantsuits!

(16,844 posts)They should just be men's, women's, or unisex suits. I think that's simpler and more direct.

(4,112 posts)terminology. I do remember, though, back in the '70s, that there was differing nomenclature for both men's and women's suiting. Those of us old enough, do you remember "leisure suits"? My grandmother wore pantsuits (in polyester pastels!) back then, too. I guess it was a way of drawing a distinction between skirted suits and those with trousers. Today, though, it's just... weird.

(15,859 posts)I don't know why the "pantsuit" thing bugs me so much. Strikes me as a gender thing. Screw that.
