Last edited Sat Nov 5, 2016, 11:53 AM - Edit history (1)
In an episode reminiscent of Watergate, the Democratic Party recently informed the FBI that it had collected evidence suggesting its Washington headquarters had been bugged, according to two Democratic National Committee officials who asked not to be named.
In September, according to these sources, the DNC hired a firm to conduct an electronic sweep of its offices. After Russian hackers had penetrated its email system and those of other Democratic targets, DNC officials believed it was prudent to scrutinize their offices. This examination found nothing unusual.
In late October, after conservative activist James O'Keefe released a new set of hidden-camera videos targeting Democrats, interim party chairwoman Donna Brazile ordered up another sweep..... Republican foes might have infiltrated the DNC offices, where volunteers were reporting to work on phone banks and other election activities. ....
The second sweep, according to the Democratic officials, found a radio signal near the chairman's office that indicated there might be a listening device outside the office. "We were told that this was something that could pick up calls from cellphones," a DNC official says. "The guys who did the sweep said it was a strong indication." No device was recovered. No possible culprits were identified.
The DNC sent a report with the technical details to the FBI .....

(3,847 posts)to the bugging. The FBI were notified and now they are denying they were informed. Hmmmmmm. Does that sound fishy to any one?

(5,737 posts)The FBI looked and dropped the investigation. This happened at least twice in the past year.

(21,056 posts)It's being done by someone on the right...
Whether it be bringing to the polls a baseball bat, a gun, harassing people over their candidates, electioneering by leaking false narratives about investigations, drudging up old debunked conspiracies, purging voters, shortening early voting, receiving hacked data, bugging, sitting outside opposing campaign headquarters with guns, or just being downright quarrelsome - the CONS are doing it!!!

(2,805 posts)But I pretty much think that anything going through the airwaves rather than a cord/wire is up for grabs. The FBI or Russia of anyone else can receive the message/contents of the call as well as the intended listening/speaking party. Listening into a call is legal and available. Be careful what you say on a cell phone because wiretapping rules don't apply as far as I could ever understand.

(15,262 posts)Just as you wouldn't expect someone to inexplicably tap into your landline telephone, the same can be said about cellular communications. This refers to voice conversations, as well as text messages, mobile email messages, and other forms of communication performed through cellular phones.

(2,805 posts)Itis in the air and anyone with a calibrated receiver has access to it. Nothing illegal about it.
From your link:
Most people would agree that voicemail hacking is not only illegal, it's unethical. The same can be said about tracking the location of a phone via GPS or recording a phone call without the permission of all parties involved. This article provides a general guideline regarding cell phone privacy laws, but, as with all other laws, these can change over time and in each jurisdiction. Be sure to check with your local law enforcement agency if you have any specific questions.

Listening to and using those listened to words in court are two different things.

(2,805 posts)Thankfully Goggle is my friend.Or at least it could be if I decided to use it. But I am not going to tell you over the internet because I believe internet transmissions can be looked over by authorities when they so choose (Maybe suspected terrorists should be careful or using the internet or wireless phone. But how did they get suspected without someone reading their internet transmissions? I guess I will have to Google it for a laugh).

..... The DNC sent a report with the technical details to the FBI, according to the DNC officials. "We believe it's been given by the bureau to another agency with three letters to examine," the DNC official says. "We're not supposed to talk about it."
A Democratic consultant who has done work for the DNC, who asked not to be identified, says he was recently informed about the suspected bugging.
The DNC officials will not say what countermeasures were subsequently taken. "As a general policy, we don't talk about such efforts," the other DNC official says. But this official adds, "You have to take all of this incredibly seriously." The first DNC official notes, "We are the oldest political party in this country, and we are under constant attack from Russia and/or maybe others."
Adam Hodge, a spokesman for the DNC, says, "The DNC is not going to comment on stories about its security. In all security matters, we cooperate fully with the appropriate law enforcement agencies and take all necessary steps to protect the committee and the safety and security of our staff." ...........

Is this the big oppo drop everyone was expecting?

(5,997 posts)If the FBI has a rogue anti-Clinton group, they could have listened in. It's not outside the realm of possibility that other groups have gotten some of this technology as well.
https://www.wired.com/2015/10/stingray-government-spy-tools-can-record-calls-new-documents-confirm/
The surveillance devices simulate cell phone towers in order to trick nearby mobile phones into connecting to them and revealing the phones locations.
Now documents recently obtained by the ACLU confirm long-held suspicions that the controversial devices are also capable of recording numbers for a mobile phones incoming and outgoing calls, as well as intercepting the content of voice and text communications. The documents also discuss the possibility of flashing a phones firmware so that you can intercept conversations using a suspects cell phone as a bug.
Here's a list of such devices-

If proven, #Coverup of the bug at the #DNC HQ by the @FBIWFO will make this much worse than #Watergate. Nixon was bad, but not a #Traitor.

The hackers targeted my thread about the FBI getting a FISA warrant on Trump's secret Russia server and removed several posts. They also removed links to that OP in other threads. Very surgical deleting!!
FBI has FISA warrant for Trump secret server connected to Russia.

(15,262 posts)Sometimes the disinformation is the best evidence going. The people who do the misdirection know what they are covering up, and their actions have discernible patterns. The bullshit about the primaries being rigged for Bernie came from the same fronts, people trying to disrupt the Dems and perhaps pre-stage the rigging in the Fall by getting all the liberals to push back on the rigged election idea.
