WASHINGTON ― Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) will both have seats at the Senate Democratic leadership table this upcoming session, after party elections put them in new positions of power.

Sanders, who caucuses with Democrats, was named to a new “Chair of Outreach” position. Warren, who was already in leadership, was elevated to a vice-chair title.

Warren is now on track for a chairmanship.

I'm guessing Sanders' new "outreach" position will not require him to do the many hard chores of a regular chairmanship, such as the heavyduty fundraising and deal facilitating expected of a heavy hitter. But they're both inside the leadership hierarchy, albeit at the bottom.

USA Today: "Sanders position is a new one, representing half of the "Steering and Outreach Committee" now chaired by Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota. Klobuchar will chair the steering committee next Congress." (Thanks for what you're doing for the party, Senator Klobuchar.)

All ranking member assignments are as follows:

Agriculture: Sen. Debbie Stabenow
Armed Services: Sen. Jack Reed of Rhode Island
Appropriations: Sen. Patrick Leahy
Banking: Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio
Budget: Sen. Bernie Sanders
Commerce: Sen. Bill Nelson of Florida
Energy: Sen. Maria Cantwell of Washington
EPW: Sen. Tom Carper of Delaware
Finance: Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon
Foreign Relations: Sen. Ben Cardin of Maryland
HELP: Sen. Patty Murray
HSGAC: Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri
Indian Affairs: Sen. Tom Udall of New Mexico
Judiciary: Sen. Dianne Feinstein
Rules: Sen. Amy Klobuchar
Small Business: Sen. Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire
Veterans Affairs: Sen. Jon Tester of Montana
Aging: Sen. Bob Casey of Pennsylvania
Ethics: Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware
Intelligence: Sen. Mark Warner
JEC: Sen. Martin Heinrich of New Mexico

Giving Warren and Sanders more prominence and leaving out some of the corporate democrats would have been better strategy. Particularly given the anti-establishment mood.

Honestly after this election, most of the establishment Democrats should have self-ejected from leadership positions. Nothing would be more effective in disrupting the GOP than to be able to consistently point out just how establishment friendly Drumpf is going to be.

They gave him a new made up position and Schumer still salted the leadership with corporate Democrats.

I'm glad that they actually acknowledged Sanders and Warren, but honestly they should have tossed most of the corporate Democrats from positions of leadership.. There were other progressives that could have been put into leadership. Franken for instance would have been a fine choice.

Because Senate rules and procedures are archaic and in order to wield power and use the filibuster strategically you have to be a match for Republicans. Ever serve in a legislative body?

I thought the Dems would see this as an opportunity for a national realignment to cement the progress we had made into stone.

All was evident to those who chose to see. Everyone knew what was at stake but social media allowed a Nation of ADD drugged citizens to have a collective temper tantrum.

So, it's done. Chuck "sell-out" has come out of the closet and the Democratic Party let HRC and my family down.

I do not want the Electoral College to elect Trump, but even this site, a victim of sabatoge in election eve is populated with "move on" folks leaves me without hope for Dems.

So, just like I had to do in 1969 and the Eighties, I'll fight with my brothers and sisters with boycotts and demonstrations. I hope for the rest of your sakes, you do the same.

And to you, I am sorry I rationalized Schummer. I was praying we would at last stop the nuclear option before if the Electoral College elects Trump.

The media, including this medium, will not save us.

It actually has some real power. Hillary Clinton was the first such chair. this position helps to set the Democratic Senators' national policy priorities. This committee actually proposes who should chair which committees in the Senate as well.
