I saw this idea posted on FB. I think it is a great idea! The list will be worthless if we all do this!

(1,990 posts)The Nazis ordered that all Jews wear a yellow armband to identify themselves. So the king of Norway appeared in public wearing one, and soon everyone in the country was wearing them.

(40,416 posts)Norway fell to the Nazis. The King took exile.
The Danes are the ones who did the passive resistance.

(40,416 posts)Passive resistance. And they got many out of Nazi influence to safety.
That is what one has to do under such conditions. Such as a Drumpf presidency.

(16,177 posts)Denmark was given some political autonomy as an agreement for capitulating quickly and never imposed a requirement for Jews to mark themselves. When the Germans did order crackdowns, the Danish government resigned and most of the Jews were moved to safety in neutral Sweden before the Germans could get them.

(Are you sure you didn't mean "Spartacus"?)
MadLinguist
(781 posts)aren't you? I did mean to reference the scene from Ben Hurr. But thinking about Barabbas's story, it's apt too.
The unmerited pardon of Barabbas by Pontious Pilate is a little too close for comfort to the unmerited pass granted to members of in-power groups.

(50,254 posts)I always thought he was just a guy who got freakishly lucky...as Forrest Gump did in the movie and Reagan did over and over in real life.
(Oh God...I suddenly imagined someone starting a chain of Biblical seafood restaurants called "The Barabbas Gump Shrimp Company". That's how my mind works sometimes).
MadLinguist
(781 posts)I just mean that the arbitrary nature of class privilege is just a lucky, undeserved pass, as Barabbas's pass was.
The Biblical seafood restaurant chain image is intriguingly horrible. Managed by Barabbas Gump and his family, would they drape shrimp and crawfish over neon crucifixes out in the parking lot? Mother Mary waitresses bearing hush puppies and catfish nuggets across Calvary Hill themed dining halls?

(2,707 posts)But this special registration system was selective. It only applied to people on non-immigrant visas (including tourism and work visas). It only applied to men over the age of 16. And it only applied to people from a list of countries the Bush administration considered havens for terrorists.
There were 25 countries on the special registration list. Twenty-four were majority-Muslim countries. The 25th was North Korea.
Since it applies to non-citizens only, there's no way to do what the OP said.

(7,908 posts)find some way to shield your children from this (by not listing them or allowing their data to be harvested). We simply don't know yet exactly how bad it is going to get. Adults can choose for themselves what type and degree their resistance to evil will take. But to the extent we can, I think we should try to protect the children from these monstrosities.
Again, though, I salute your general stance!
Bettie
(15,997 posts)said if they do this we should register too.
The 8 year old...probably not.
I'm still hopeful that it won't happen, but lately, up is down, down is up and the lunatics are running the asylum, so who knows?

He reads and researches to argue with the Trumpkins in his school (one of whom is the high school history teacher) and is unwilling to back down in his support of what is right.
I'm so proud of him, he's much more confident, brave, and politically aware than I was at 15.

(7,908 posts)a Trumpkin. Historians believe in and build their lives and careers around 'facts.' Trump is ahistorical.

(9,863 posts)I am quite certain that the registration forms will contain a clause in which the applicant swears that the information contained in the form is the truth and that there will be criminal and civil penalties for false statements. So while it sounds clever to have everyone register as Muslims it won't work unless those doing so are willing to subject themselves to prosecution.

(32,076 posts)There is no DNA test for are you a Muslim . Religion is only in your head and last time I checked you can change your mind every 10 minutes.
But thanks for your extreme concern
KingCharlemagne
(7,908 posts)only one God, Allah, and Mohammed is his prophet. The barriers to becoming a Muslim are vanishingly slim.

(32,076 posts)My ancestors led Crusades 1 & 4. One died in a concentration camp. Currently have fam Christian missonaries in Egypt. Been studying this stuff since childhood. Religion is what you say it is.
"I identify with the religions of Abraham." Let's leave it there.
KingCharlemagne
(7,908 posts)very easy to become Muslim and requires no catechism or whatever the Protestant equivalent is. All it requires is the self-naming oneself as Muslim and recognition of Allah as the one true God with Mohammed as his prophet. Islam does impose certain obligations on its followers (like the Hajj), but does not put up strict barriers to entry.

(32,076 posts)In most religions it really depends on the sect .
I don't believe in God the way people define God . But there have been many many times in my life where I felt the presence of something much greater than I can describe. I've come to realize that I will never understand it. Feels much more peaceful now.

(58,437 posts)Immigrants are already registered. They check in, and are supposed to check out when they leave. If they stay for extended periods, they get IDs. Now, if he starts 'registering' citizens, he'll be crossing the line.
If he means to find and 'register' all of the "illegal" immigrants, well, they are already trying to do that, too. Another lame Trump promise that is based on false premises.
