I hope these fascist bastards have also awakened the people who did not vote or threw away their vote
I am hopeful they will come out in DROVES to vote in two years when they see what these repukes are really going to do

(153,138 posts)but yes, that is what needs to be done
my feeling is, they don't give a DAMN about anything UNTIL IT AFFECTS THEM - *THAT* is main difference between republicans and Democrats

(9,258 posts)Thank God there will (hopefully) be *some* check on the shit they're going to try to ram through. Some say it will be a way to blame the Democrats when "nothing gets done". I think there's at least a few R's who realize that ending the filibuster will come back to bite them in the ass in the long run.

(8,962 posts)And looking ahead to 2018, the party out of the White House typically gains during mid-term elections. Trump's disastrous policies once implemented may turn the tide even further, although for many there would be a hell of a price to pay in the ensuing two years.

(10,714 posts)then the guy in the white house is irrelevant, and whoever controls congress is irrelevant. The government is too small to dictate to a populace that does not consent.

(27,985 posts)Democratic Underground functions much better when we are fighting a common enemy. Since this is by far the most dangerous enemy DU has ever had to fight, we will be doing the best work we've ever done. We have, in the past, been a force to be reckoned with but that won't hold a candle to what they will be facing from us now.
How we will defeat them is a bit hazy right now. But my belief that we will defeat them is unwavering.

Trump trolls can quickly be tombstoned and should be.
DU needs to heal wounds with people who backed Sanders or even voted Green or left the ballot blank or wrote in someone else. All are progressive and likely abhor what Trump stands for. I know many lifelong Dems in CA where Clinton led by 20% in the polls that they were voting their conscience, knowing she would win here no matter what, so voted for the most pro-environmental party.
Perhaps the pledge should simply be that all are welcome who commit to fight Trump and his totalitarian, undemocratic racist agenda.
Also privacy of one's vote is constitutionally protected in many states, a forum operator demanding to know how one voted would likely be found illlegal by a court. But you CAN require that people commit to supporting democratic principals or agree to forum rules of decorum, to oppose Trump's agenda, or be a registered Democrat.

If they manage to pass any of Trump's economic agenda, they'll likely help to bring it.
