Gen. Mike Flynns Office Told Women to Wear Makeup, Heels, and Skirts

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/11/18/gen-mike-flynn-s-office-told-women-to-wear-makeup-heels-and-skirts.html

by Katie Zavadski at the Daily Beast

"SNIP..............

Women in the Defense Intelligence Agency were told to monitor their levels of makeup, avoid flats, and err on the side of skirts and dresses when the organization was run by Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn, who was tapped to be Donald Trump’s national security adviser Thursday. The January 2013 presentation, entitled “Dress for Success,” was obtained through a Freedom of Information request by MuckRock in 2013.

“Makeup helps women look more attractive,” the presentation declared.

Female DIA employees were instructed to straddle the fine line between avoiding a “Plain Jane” look and the right amount of makeup that would appropriately accentuate their features. Too much makeup was also a potential pitfall, with the presentation saying that it “distracts from a professional look.”

The DIA also had strict instructions on what to wear.

girls had to wear dresses. Even on bitterly cold days. We could wear pants under the dresses, but dresses were required. Are we really going back there?

After all, in the new Trump-ruled United States, women's entire raison d'être is to look attractive to men. Who cares about our opinions, our hard work, and our contributions? We're just there to look "attractive" so that our (assumed-to-be heterosexual) male colleagues feel sexually stimulated while they do their work.

Don't even get me started on the demand to "avoid flats". These people should be sued for the foot, back, and spine problems they are causing their female employees. But who cares about women's health issues when our sole purpose is to look attractive to men?

Next thing we know, they'll be proposing the execution of all women past a certain age, since Trump and his men only find young women "attractive".

From the end of the article

“I apologize to the entire workforce for the unnecessary and serious distraction of this ‘Dress for Success’ briefing,” he wrote, claiming that he had only recently learned of its existence. “I’ve now seen it and I too find it highly offensive.”

“Neither the agency nor I condone this briefing and I only hope the intention to execute this task was pure of heart and intended to help... but even smart people do dumb things sometimes.”

" In July 2016, Flynn shared a tweet that read, “Not anymore, Jews. Not anymore.” Flynn linked to the message to claim that the “corrupt Democratic machine will do and say anything to get #NeverHillary into power.” He later apologized, deleted the tweet, and claimed it was “a mistake.” "

I've always found makeup unhealthy and a bit gross. Finally, a few years ago, I realized that the relatively low-heeled shoes I was wearing were giving me bunions. So I switched to totally flat shoes -- zero heel and zero arch support, so that the foot does what it was naturally evolved to do. How dare these people tell women that they have to jeopardize their health to "look attractive" to men? Shouldn't the focus be on how well they are doing their jobs, rather than how they look to men while doing it?
