Some of Sanders successes had do with the extremely restrictive caucus system, which keeps turnout low and is particularly prohibitive for the poor and minority voters who were Clinton's biggest supporters. His rhetoric about large turnout was not only precisely the opposite of his actual performance but the opposite of his campaign strategy, which Tad Devine articulated in early Jan of 2015 as being to focus on caucus states with lower turnout and less diverse populations. That is exactly what they did.

I could not disagree more strongly that more Independents should run for the Dem nomination for president. I don't want the party become Trump lite or less committed to equal rights in order to court the GOP white male voters some have decided are so much more valuable than the Democratic base. I don't want to go back to "the gold old days" or "make America great again, and I will never support anyone who engages in that kind of rhetoric. To move backward is not progressive or liberal; it is regressive by its very definition. It is at the best ahistorical and at worst exclusionary. I would like to see the party develop a better approach to the economy, class, and outreach, but those ideas need to be forward looking.

As for resentment from the primary, many of us who didn't support Sanders were insulted on a daily basis, and those insults were personal. Everyday I see posts from people who treated me like shit throughout the primary. I've decided to forget about many of them, or simply not respond to the ones who were particularly vicious. I even see on this site people who voted third party or for Trump, according to their declarations on another site, and I don't say anything to them about it--unless they deliberately provoke me (as one, who has since been PPR'd, did last week). Everyone has to swallow shit. That Sheshe posted some OPs critical of Sanders is the least of what transpired in the primary. People can damn well get over it or put her on ignore.

I am not sure that any caucus is, although for some reason I never went to the Iowa caucus in 2000, although I lived in Iowa at the time. Not sure if I knew when it was or if I thought (mistakenly) that it was just a meeting of party insiders.

That said, there is nothing to prevent any registered Democrat, or even an independent who changes their registration on the day of the caucus from attending the Kansas Democratic caucus.

Turnout just is lower for a caucus. However, as for that keeping away minority voters, no that was quite the opposite in 2008. In my Senate District, 400 black people made a point to come out and caucus for Obama. 2/3 of the caucus attendees were black and 99% of them caucused for Obama. They were fired up to nominate Obama. They were not so fired up to nominate Hillary in 2016. The caucus this time was probably 70-80% white, but about the same total number of people as 2008 (at least in my SD).

As for attacks, I noticed a funny thing. For about the first two years of his presidency, I was an Obama defender on DU - or at least I tried. And dang, his critics sure were obnoxious. They would not just argue, they (many of them) would rhetorically poke you in the eye with a stick. Then Obama decided to renew the Bush tax cuts, so I pretty much had no more use for him. Then danged if it did not seem that the Obama defenders were obnoxious. Suddenly it was they, my former allies, who were poking me in the eye with a stick (rhetorically).

Point is, it is easier to notice when your opponents are poking you in the eye than it is when your allies are poking other people in the eyes.

But the one does not justify the other.

It may have been work that kept me from the Iowa caucus since I worked a floating twelve hour shift in those days, but if the Gore campaign had been on the ball, they could have gotten me there with a proxy (I cannot remember if those are allowed). He visited Mason City, where I worked, and I was kinda ticked I did not even get to see him. Had he done a public event, I would have shown up and his campaign could have made sure I was able to caucus.

It stated they had respect for me until said person discovered that I have a serious disability. It made me want to cry to be honest with you. On Tuesday evening at 5 pm, I was at the Presbyterian Church, helping them with their free community meal (like I do every month). On Wednesday there was no school, so I had the afternoon off from my usual volunteering at the after school center. At seven I spent a whole hour ringing bells for the Salvation Army. Wednesday night I worked the graveyard shift at the homeless shelter from 2 AM until 5. Then I went to the Community thanksgiving meal where I spent an hour helping to put away tables and chairs and sweeping the floor.

As long as the Archie Bunkers and the Urban professionals turn the Democratic party into a fight of "i matter, no I matter" then the only folks that will benefit are the folks living in Mansions. They want us ALL gone, all of us, everyone NOT them, and then when we are dead, they will try to feast on each other before the People's Republic of China, or some new actor on the stage, swoops in to pick the meat off of any bones left.

That being said, anyone who thinks we need to stop pushing for women's rights is playing into the wrong hands; it will even embolden the more than 50 percent of White Women who were content to thrw the rest of their sisters to the machine.

We should all be better than that.

However, it's not fair, or logical, to say that when those people called you "stupid" or a "liar" that they were speaking against all women. When they called you that, they may have just literally meant 'YOU"....like, you personally. That doesn't mean they think poorly of all women, it might just mean they don't have a high opinion of you.
