Second Vancouver Aquarium Beluga dies 9 days after her daughter

Cross posting from E&E.

Aurora, the last remaining beluga whale at the Vancouver Aquarium, passed away Friday night.

The aquarium confirmed the 30-year-old whale passed away after more than a week of illness, during which she showed symptoms of abdominal cramping, loss of appetite and lethargy.

Aurora's death comes nine days after her calf, Qila — the first beluga whale conceived and born in captivity at a Canadian aquarium — died at 21 years old.

She went into decline as soon as her daughter died...probably a broken heart. I can only hope they don't try to "acquire" a replacement.
