Serving In The Military Will Be A Waste Of Time Under Trump & GOP.

I cannot think of any reason for a person to enlist in the military going forward. What are we now protecting. The country that is so infected with racism, bigotry, xenophobia and misogyny cannot be great again. It is a myth. We have rejected everything this country stood for.

If we do not mend our ways in these areas we are hypocrites not worth saving. The country's soul is sick the way we are now. No one in their right mind would ever consider a person who is not only so flawed they are down right dangerous. I believe what we have done is just as bad as leaving your children with a known mean pedophile. I do not understand how we could have made a worse pick. Our decision defies all logic and decency no matter how you try to justify it.

So even giving your life for the country right now would seem to be a waste. The only redeeming thing about service is to save what is left of the country so we have the ability to change our course.

We will need civil servants to prevent some of the worst Trump/GOP abuses. Sadly a lot more of them will be privatized. And there will be a lot of pressure to compromise the work of our federal institutions.

On the other hand going to a combat zone and risking your life is another matter. So far veterans are not really taken care of after they come home. I would have to wait an see how veterans fare under a Trump administration. Plus our troops will be under a command that believes in and may even order using torture.

If our soldiers serve to protect what could end up being a white supremacist corporate controlled nation then is that really a worthy cause. If we are protecting the 1% at the expense of the rest of the country and returning soldiers end up in crap jobs at the end of their tours then they have wasted their time.

Somehow as a vet myself I do not see how I could ever salute this prick.

He isn't in any sort of combat rating but is in a high security clearance job. Now I'm hoping he doesn't re-enlist.

Recruiters emphasize job training and experience for future employment, financial incentives, and college or IT benefits. These things continue to entice recruits--many of whom would have no chance to attend college otherwise.

Trump WILL start a war or get involved in one, sooner or later. An ill-conceived bullshit excuse of a war, no doubt. But people will turn on him when the body count gets high enough. Unfortunately, that might be the only thing that will make them turn on him.

A health policy expert at the libertarian Cato Institute is offering a radical idea to help reform the Department of Veterans Affairs and prevent future wars at the same time: Make troops and veterans pay for their own medical insurance.

In an online essay last week, institute Director of Health Policy Studies Michael Cannon recommends dropping the idea of free health care for veterans and instead offering better pay for current troops and vouchers for current veterans to buy their own coverage on the open market.

He also calls for privatizing the Veterans Health Administration -- something the major veterans groups have all argued against -- with shares of the new publicly-run company to be given to veterans and servicemembers based on time in service.

“Privatization would improve the quality of veterans’ benefits immeasurably,” he wrote. “The federal government promises veterans’ benefits to military personnel once they leave active duty. Only it’s not an explicit promise. And Congress doesn’t fund it.

Cato is one of those instutions that are pushing to privatize everything doing with government.

I have a orange hitler loving nephew who is getting veterans benefits and healthcare for his family. He's going to school on the GI bill. He is barely getting by and comp, sins about Obamacare but he doesn't use it. I hope he gets screwed.
