Whom does he take into political meetings?
His family, because there's nobody else he could take there.
Whom does he appoint to cabinet posts?
Lackies, cronies, fellow billionaires, because there's nobody else he knows.
When you work in a high-profile field, like politics or science, there's a society in which you operate.
You know other experts, sometimes you met them in person at a conference but most of the time you know them by name only because you read about their work.
You know people who know people.
You know who is networking with whom and whom to contact on this or that issue.
You know what they are working on, sometimes you know about their character. Sometimes you even know the dirty chit-chat and rumors about personal stuff.
Hillary Clinton would have known whom to call, whom to ask, whom to appoint on issues of economy, diplomacy, industry, military, environment. Because she at least has heard of these people by name.
Trump has spent his life with fat-cats, celebrities, lawyers and his family. That's why he's appointing a billionaire to secretary of commerce, that's why he's asking Fabio for advice, that's why he takes his family to political meetings.
Because he doesn't know any experts who could actually DO this job of supporting his administration and giving good advice.
I have heard the argument: "Don't worry about Trump's extremism. The people working for him will do the actual work."
Except that Trump doesn't know any good people he could hire.

As i have been thinking. He doesnt like to spend time with these people on a personal level. They voted for him but he doesnt think much of them .

(82,849 posts)Politicians, like teachers, have a job that everyone is familiar with, and because of that, everyone thinks they can do it. Not just do the job, but excel at it, in ways that the pros can't or won't. Trump has used the language of "I alone" can accomplish things, "I alone" can "save" America.
We're seeing the first fruits of electing a complete tyro to the highest office in the land. It's not an entry-level position, where you learn as you go. He will be insulated by a coterie of sycophants and lickspittles, and cosseted by a toadying political media, petrified at the thought of being frozen out or losing access.

(464 posts)Then Fabio must know more than the experts. Trump really hates people with knowledge of any type.

(70,649 posts)A college kid (millennial?) said that DRUMPF had campaigned on throwing lobbyists out of government. I was astounded!1 The first mistake the kid made was to give any credence to anything DRUMPF said. Beyond that, DRUMPF's whole m.o. is cash for favors. It's just incredible how much information is KNOWN about the a-hole that just does not penetrate.
