Clinton did go on record saying they are supporting the recount efforts. Supporting or backing....kind of the same thing. Now not to get in the weeds but in my mind I would think supporting would actually call for more than a statement of support. I feel like to be labeled as supporting then Clinton would need to be making funds available or signing her own petition or something more than just that statement. But that is just me.

"The effort, backed by Clinton" gets too easily perceived or construed as "paid by".

All subtle differences anyway. I personally appreciated the participation a great deal, and I think it is optimal, under these wretched circumstances. The other side is too armed, dangerous, crazy, and in manager opinion "un-American".
