A member of the Electoral College representing Texas, Art Sisneros, wrote on Saturday that he will resign as an elector because he refuses to cast a vote for Donald Trump.
Sisneros had previously spoken out against Trump, telling Politico in August that he was considering voting against Trump even if he won the electoral college. But in a blog post on Saturday, Sisneros wrote that he does not want to be a "faithless" elector and cannot bring himself to vote for Trump, so he decided to resign from his role as an elector.
"I do not see how Donald Trump is biblically qualified to serve in the office of the Presidency. Of the hundreds of angry messages that I have received, not one has made a convincing case from scripture otherwise," he wrote on his blog "The Blessed Path." "If Trump is not qualified and my role, both morally and historically, as an elected official is to vote my conscience, then I can not and will not vote for Donald Trump for President. I believe voting for Trump would bring dishonor to God."
"Since I cant in good conscience vote for Donald Trump, and yet have sinfully made a pledge that I would, the best option I see at this time is to resign my position as an Elector," Sisneros continued. "This will allow the remaining body of Electors to fill my vacancy when they convene on Dec 19 with someone that can vote for Trump. The people will get their vote. They will get their Skittles for dinner. I will sleep well at night knowing I neither gave in to their demands nor caved to my convictions. I will also mourn the loss of our republic."

(32,076 posts)This man is really smart . This is the one excuse that will keep crazy Republican people from burning down his house. Seriously.
Also, all the Abrahamic religions outline what a good leader looks like, and it ain't Donald Trump. Idgaf if he cites MY LITTLE PONY, lol. He is a man of conscience.

(70,085 posts)there is no more vulnerable bunch of electors than the ones who are listening to "god". if they can be convinced that god doesnt like cheeto, which was already being said before the election, there could be real cracks in the ec.

(49,983 posts)Of course, it is equally frightening that anyone would willingly vote for Drumpf regardless of biblical qualifications (whatever the fuck that is).

His type of thinking is as scary as Trump's.

So why do these Christians shit in the pants every time they turn around whether it be Trump or the terrorists?
I guess their faith has limits.

(146,286 posts)Wonderful. Just wonderful. This country seems to be full of strange people with strange ideas about government.
"Biblically qualified?" WTF does that even mean. There were no governments that were elected by common people in biblical times. Not a single one.
The Bible doesn't lay out any qualifications for Presidents, for pity's sake.

" biblically qualified" WTF does that even mean? Circumcised? Not circumcised? Beard? No beard? Wears mixed blend fabrics? Saved? Not saved? Foot washing? Non foot washing? Washed in the blood of the lamb? Not washed in the blood of the lamb? Once saved always saved? Hard shell? Soft shell? Saturday Bingo, Sunday repenting? (Why, yes. Yes I did grow up around various types of Baptists)
What? Seriously - what the fuck does that even mean?
If his conscience tells him Trump isn't qualified, then instead of running away from the job, he should vote Clinton. If he really thinks
a vote for Trump means the loss of the republic, then his running away makes him a coward. Hiding behind some warped belief that being " biblically qualified" is in any way an acceptable factor in electing a president is beneath contempt.

(145,130 posts)Since the elector is attempting to resign after the presidential election date, he has to wait until the day of the meeting of the electoral college and not show up. http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/Docs/EL/htm/EL.192.htm
(b) The secretary of state shall arrange for the meeting place, notify the electors, and call the meeting to order. The secretary shall act as temporary chair of the meeting until the electors elect a chair from among themselves.
(c) If an elector is absent at the time for convening the meeting, the electors may declare the elector position vacant by a majority vote of those present at the meeting.
Acts 1985, 69th Leg., ch. 211, Sec. 1, eff. Jan. 1, 1986. Amended by Acts 1997, 75th Leg., ch. 864, Sec. 201, eff. Sept. 1, 1997.
Sec. 192.007. REPLACEMENT AFTER ELECTION. (a) The electors meeting to vote for president and vice-president may appoint a replacement elector by a majority vote of the qualified electors present if:
(1) the vacancy occurred before presidential election day and a replacement was not chosen under Section 192.004;
(2) on or after presidential election day, an elector is declared ineligible or dies; or
(3) the vacancy is declared under Section 192.006(c).
(b) The chair of the electors shall notify the secretary of state of the name and residence address of a replacement elector immediately on the replacement's appointment.
Acts 1985, 69th Leg., ch. 211, Sec. 1, eff. Jan. 1, 1986. Amended by Acts 1997, 75th Leg., ch. 864, Sec. 202, eff. Sept. 1, 1997.
If the elector had resigned before the election date, he could be replaced by the Texas GOP. Now, this elector has until the meeting of the electoral college to change his mind. Hopefully he will show up and vote against trump. There is evidently no penalty in Texas for being a faithless elector

(1,076 posts)Sounds to me the Elector has principles and is standing by them. He and I are of different parties, but appears to be someone I could trust, as a member of the loyal opposition. Anyone who uses language the way tRump has, lost my respect last year. Likewise, he has turned everything upside down with the electorate with lies and more lies. For his personal benefit. He is like playing with a rattlesnake, "he won't bite me, because I know what I'm doing". After these election results, the sad thing is being in the majority, and have to suffer the tyranny of the minority.
What they want to do will NOT take care of the disadvantaged. Have you ever walked down a street that had open sewers?
