Trump's win has gotten me thinking that I should get involved in my local politics...
I have been a life long junkie of news and politics thanks to my father. Indeed my father instilled in me a broad range of academic interests from news and politics to science and nature, and the arts. I don't count myself an actual intellectual given the shallow nature of my understanding of most of these topics. Due to the fact that I never perused them further much beyond at most a precursor post secondary examination. Despite having the aptitude for it. I have been hobbled in that regard most of my life due to emotional and mental illness struggles. I will fully admit a lot of which are my own fault. At any rate even as a Canadian, Trump's win has hit me hard. And I have been thinking lately that I really should get more involved with my own local area politics. The extent of my involvement has been voting in every federal / national election since of eligible age. I have traditionally followed US politics because I have always been fascinated in the big picture. Large and long term trends that shape the world. But I have always done so at the expense of our own politics here at home, which I have always felt were as boring as milquetoast. But no indeed the opposite is true. Most often the politics that will affect you the most in your day to day life is decided at the oft neglected city and state/provincial level.
