I believe Trump and company are instigating a form of Shock Doctrine

Last edited Tue Nov 29, 2016, 02:17 PM - Edit history (1)

They're throwing the book of absurd and heinous cabinet nominees, advisors, and legislative repeals at us. Their hope is that when their true pro-corporate ideas are introduced we will readily accept them as being "better" alternatives than those already suggested.

"Only a crisis -- actual or perceived -- produces real change. When that crisis occurs, the actions that are taken depend on the ideas that are lying around. That, I believe, is our basic function: to develop alternatives to existing policies, to keep them alive and available until the politically impossible becomes the politically inevitable.” ― Milton Friedman

1. It seems to me there are plenty of people out there who have dealt with

Trump in business negotiations. Those are the people Schumer and Pelosi and Obama need to be talking to. The ones that beat him and also the ones that didn't but know his methods.

dupe is unintentional. But it's pretty clear, to me anyway, we haven't seen anything yet.

5. I thought of Shock Doctrine

when the Ohio State attack was reported. I was just waiting for Trump to start tweeting about Muslims or immigrants. It may not take a big event like a Reichstag fire or 9/11 for Trump and Republicans to advance their agenda and/or create a police state; they may do it slowly, step by step, taking advantage of every smaller "crisis" they can hype and exploit to take more control and ratchet up more privatization, more corporatism, more police presence, more NSA surveillance, more prison time for more crimes (like flag burning ) leading to more disenfranchisement, etc.

We'll see.

6. He is casting for a reality TV show - the shock doctrine will be needed for legislation

that is what he is doing with this cabinet picks.

The shock doctrine is going to be needed to justify the onslaught of full on fascist legislation McConnell and Ryan are going to churn out.

They wont have to have create it, they will just wait for something like 9-11 to come along or for the wheels to come of the economy - any scenario of course won't be their fault and they will need to be in control to get us through it.

Look beyond the cabinet posts to SCOTUS, for example.

They can create a crisis. Please see Post #8.

8. Yep! Been going down that path for quite some time - they either exploit a crisis (eg

levee failure in New Orleans ) OR CREATE ONE (massive tax giveaways and bankrupt the country, defund public services and then using resulting chaos to PRIVATIZE (aka pillage) everything and anything - give away or sell off cheap public assets).

Trump is GREAT at bankrupting things, and is already serving a useful function in distracting media and the public..
