NC Gov. McCrory dealt blow as Board of Elections orders complaints over voter eligibility tossed: report

The North Carolina State Board of Elections Monday issued an order dismissing keys election protests from Gov. Pat McCrory’s campaign, dealing a harsh blow to the incumbent governor’s hope for reelection.

ABC 11 reports the decision affects 52 counties where Republicans filed protests alleging people were ineligible to vote. The board of elections instructed those counties to dismiss any protest that “merely disputes the eligibility of a voter.”

McCrory’s challenger Roy Cooper called the decision a “devastating blow” to the incumbent governor’s campaign. Cooper currently leads McCrory by over 9,000 votes.

BREAKING: Tonight the State Board of Elections, controlled by Republicans appointed by the McCrory campaign, issued an order requiring that the county boards dismiss election protests filed by the McCrory campaign in 52 counties.

"This is a devastating blow to the McCrory campaign and further evidence that there is no path to victory for Governor McCrory. Roy Cooper’s lead has grown to over 9,000 votes as Republican claims of voter fraud have been routinely rejected by members of their own party. It's time for Governor McCrory to respect the will of the voters," said Cooper for NC Campaign Manager Trey Nix.

North Carolina has a quirk in its election system. If McCrory can get the Republican-controlled legislature (which did his bidding in regards to HB2) to go along, they can simply declare that McCrory will get another term as governor, regardless of the vote. Republicans have gotten more and more brazen in their disregard for our country, have they gone far enough that they can simply override the will of the people? Time will tell.
