Aldous Huxley's Brave New World was a prescient warning

Our technological communications can isolate us rather than really helping us connect

And there's another problem: we don't own or control the equipment

Those who own it and control it have the power to limit what we do with it

Flash mobs are a fun idea but they can be shut down by turning off the cell towers

Email is convenient but it can be shut down too -- and it can be searched

Phones are great things but they can be tapped

Knowing and meeting real people in person matters
