Most people seem to assume their only choices are the phone company and cable company. It's not true, and pulling your business is a way to send a message that ISPs will listen to.

Personally, I've probably had 8 internet carriers since I moved to NYC.

enjoy your riches

go rural and options go away.

i sell the shit.
I can show you locations where even your cell phone is crap.

here is wisconsin in the lake areas...they did a study on how to improve the business health of the area.
main conclusion was increase availability of bandwidth. Folks drive to the cottage on the lake on weekend and go back sunday night.
They can not stay longer because they do not have the available internet connection to work from the vacation home.....Work at home is a joke when you have dial up.
Better internet would increase the stay from just the sat and sunday to include a day or 2 more....when folks stay longer, the wallet stays longer and more money is spent supporting local business.

Outside of the city it's slim pickings. You don't even have to go that far. I'm close enough that my cable package local news is NY, so I get to see the advertisements for all the choices I could have if I lived there.
