Regular Americans, good ol' boys, enjoy a nice plate of frogs' legs every now and then. You know what's really weird in our culture? Orange juice with breakfast.

Would I kid you:

Yes, that's Chris Matthews, hero to some around DU, scoring candidate Obama in 2008 for asking for orange juice with his breakfast instead of good old All American coffee, like a real American would.

in various areas I lived in when I was a kid. Froggy's legs would hit the dinner table that night and I imagined Froggy was left on a dolly with a little tin begging cup. Anywhere there was a large French or western border German population, people ate frog. I suspect my dad caught ours, they only appeared when he'd been home for at least a day.

They might be imported for the rich man's table. I've seen them for sale only one place, frozen in the basement of Safeway International in DC. I would imagine they still carry them.

and salt cod always tasted slightly spoilt unless you did a hell of a lot to it. However, I used to buy sea scallops right off the boat and shuck them myself, so I'm with you there.

They sell them in the supermarket in my hometown every once in a while. I had them once as a kid. They were fine, but I wouldn't be spending what Trump/Romney dumped on them.

I think these were imports (I'd have to go out to the garage and dig through to find out), but I've seen both import and domestic.

Used to be pretty common when I was growing up. My mother used to make them every so often...they used to be pretty cheap. Quick and easy to make, and very tender and tasty.

then add a touch of lemon juice, and maybe some herbs. You can also flour-dredge then lightly batter/bread. It's a very white, delicate flavored meat, and doesn't take much to completely overpower the taste.

The muscles do twitch when you first salt them, though, and the moving legs turn some off, for some reason

Typically, they come frozen from Vietnam, Thailand and other countries in the region. There are frog farms in the US, but not many.
