We know he's a lying sociopath, and most of us would *survive* another 4 years of hard-right rule.
The thing that really worries me is when Trump gets that immense power of the presidency, what kind of savage instincts might be unleashed. We know he likes retribution and revenge.
But what are the odds he will stay within the constitution or even the bounds of human decency?
Can anyone really say with confidence he won't set up some sort of brutal police/para-military force when he's in power, to round up Muslims, illegal immigrants, dissidents and undesirables?
Can anyone really say with confidence that such a force would not evolve into some form of death squad?
Aside from whatever terrible havoc he might start overseas, such bombing Iran, what is the worst case scenario for us domestically?

(7,723 posts)I've never heard anyone say anything like that, or say that any of his enemies have been killed, but given that he has mob connections, you have to wonder.

(34,845 posts)That being said, it's possible he will become drunk with power and learn to develop that taste. Then there's the fact that much of his administration will be operating independently of him.

(7,723 posts)The question is whether he might take it further.

(4,516 posts)he has already taken it further. Trump is loading up a cabinet with a specific purpose. They won't do anything as blatant (at least not right away) as putting people in work camps or the showers. They want the people to believe they are buying into a beautiful liberal-free utopia, where their ass will be spared.
I believe we can learn something from almost anyone. Including preppers. IMO The more self-sufficient you can be, the better chance you have of surviving the coming storm.

(4,858 posts)...even though--because!--I've had similar thoughts myself since the election. I'm generally suspicious of the "we can't stoop to their level" talk--people who don't "stoop" are usually suckers. But we can't get to this point. If we do, we become them. And quite literally, God help us all then.
