Resistance -- Historical Ancestry -- Sioux Nation

Standing Rock Sioux Nation are the decedents of Sitting Bull, one of the resistance leaders at the Battle of Little Big Horn (1876). This was the battle where Lakota, Cheyenne, and Arapaho united and defeated Gen. Custer and his Seventh Cavalry. Reason: Broken Treaties. Also, Lakota (Sioux) was one of the last tribes forced onto reservations. Theirs has been a long fight of many battles and resistant stands to protect Treaties and Native Lands.

This historical resistance is integral to the current stand-off with DAPL. It is about Treaty Rights and Protecting Water. The historical gathering of more than 200 Native Nations in solidarity of resistance is both inspiring and tragic.

Please note: Native Peoples are US Citizens.
