Lowering The Bar: The Media is Already Abandoning Standards They Set For Obama

Lowering The Bar: The Media is Already Abandoning Standards They Set For Obama
We can't expect Trump to act like a president, right? That's just not fair!
JUSTIN ROSARIO DEC 2, 2016

The press foamed at the mouth over Obama allegedly not trying hard enough to suck up to Republicans after crushing them in 2008. Curiously, his inability to get Republicans on board with anything he wanted to do was seen as a failure on his part.

Even after the nation found out that Republicans had literally plotted to obstruct Obama at all costs, the conventional wisdom was that Obama just didn't try hard enough to compromise with them. You may recall feeling a sense of unreality at the time as the left was concerned that Obama was trying too hard to compromise with a party dead set on destroying him.

Now, Donald is the president-elect and, surprise!, bipartisanship? What's that? If Bash is a bellwether, we can expect the press to yawn over Donald setting the expected olive branch on fire. And this is after squeaking out an Electoral College win but getting crushed in the popular vote. Oh, and let's not forget that the "winning" candidate's party lost seats in both the House and the Senate, an historical anomaly. If a Democrat won under these circumstances, the press would be howling for them to appease the Republicans.

Yep. Ratings - and trump will give that to them. No matter the damage to the country. Solly Mack Dec 2016 #7

When Trump called the media bosses in for the meeting I am certain that ground rules were laid down. And I am certain that the media bosses laid down also.

to DEMAND the press do its job. Personally I think the New York Times is not worthy of my dollar. I support the Washington Post and the Guardian, as well as a few of the online sites like Huffington Post. I know that many of us have not watched news on TV since the election, and we need to expand those numbers and make sure the outlets know we're not watching in HUGE NUMBERS. If anyone knows of a central site that is working on this effort, please post. There's power in numbers.

Of a base nature; sensationalists, having nothing to do with the facts.

Imagine a simple bar graph with the names of presidents on the horizontal with a single vertical representing the comfort level of the press.

We'll give trump the color orange. Orange would stop at the natural comfort level of the press. Obama's color is blue and it continues off the chart range. He is above and beyond the comfort level of the press.

Think of Trump as the Peter Principal candidate for president. Think of the press as the already established incompetent management wishing to maintain the hierarchy they most feel relevant in.

Obama would be the truly competent candidate that threatens the comfort level of the press.

I believe that's right.

They care only about ratings and the biggest lyin clown brings the most, ergo Resident Trump!
