?4321We stand together in solidarity with our partners and children for the protection of our rights, our safety, our health, and our families -- recognizing that our vibrant and diverse communities are the strength of our country.
Our Mission
The rhetoric of the past election cycle has insulted, demonized, and threatened many of us--immigrants of all statuses, Muslims and those of diverse religious faiths, people who identify as LGBTQIA, Native people, Black and Brown people, people with disabilities, survivors of sexual assaultand our communities are hurting and scared. We are confronted with the question of how to move forward in the face of national and international concern and fear.
In the spirit of democracy and honoring the champions of human rights, dignity, and justice who have come before us, we join in diversity to show our presence in numbers too great to ignore. The Womens March on Washington will send a bold message to our new administration on their first day in office, and to the world that women's rights are human rights. We stand together, recognizing that defending the most marginalized among us is defending all of us.
We support the advocacy and resistance movements that reflect our multiple and intersecting identities. We call on all defenders of human rights to join us. This march is the first step towards unifying our communities, grounded in new relationships, to create change from the grassroots level up. We will not rest until women have parity and equity at all levels of leadership in society. We work peacefully while recognizing there is no true peace without justice and equity for all.
HEAR OUR VOICE.
"It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences.

I fear for their safety. This takes place the day after the inauguration. You know there will still be tRump supporters around, the not so bright racist and sexist bullies spoiling for a fight. They are the cowards that will want to show their white privilege.

The procession began late, but all went well for the first few blocks [picture]. Soon, however, the crowds, mostly men in town for the following day's inauguration of Woodrow Wilson, surged into the street making it almost impossible for the marchers to pass [picture]. Occasionally only a single file could move forward. Women were jeered, tripped, grabbed, shoved, and many heard indecent epithets and barnyard conversation.5 Instead of protecting the parade, the police seemed to enjoy all the ribald jokes and laughter and part participated in them.6 One policeman explained that they should stay at home where they belonged. The men in the procession heard shouts of Henpecko and Where are your skirts? As one witness explained, There was a sort of spirit of levity connected with the crowd. They did not regard the affair very seriously.7
But to the women, the event was very serious. Helen Keller [picture] was so exhausted and unnerved by the experience in attempting to reach a grandstand . . . that she was unable to speak later at Continental hall [sic ].8 Two ambulances came and went constantly for six hours, always impeded and at times actually opposed, so that doctor and driver literally had to fight their way to give succor to the injured9 [picture]. One hundred marchers were taken to the local Emergency Hospital. Before the afternoon was over, Secretary of War Henry L. Stimson, responding to a request from the chief of police, authorized the use of a troop of cavalry from nearby Fort Myer to help control the crowd.10
Seattle will also have a solidarity march.

The day after the inauguration of Donald Trump, "ALL women, femme, trans, gender non-conforming, and feminist people (including men and boys) are invited to march... [in] support for the community members who have been marginalized by the recent election." This event will take place in solidarity with the Million Women March being planned for the same day in Washington, DC.

(26,571 posts)I'm more worried about the trains, planes and automobiles that will get me there, along with my own foot power. Walking 2 miles a day to get ready, soon to be three, with a backpack.
I just celebrated my 69th birthday and I'm protesting for my 90 year old aunt, who can't make it, and my dear departed mother who would have been 105 on 1/20/2017, and my grandchildren and everyone else's grandchildren.
Fuck trump, fuck fascism, fuck them all.
