without fear of contradiction that Barack Hussein Obama is the greatest President of my lifetime.
His wit, wisdom, eloquence and grace, when coupled with his basic human decency and understanding of what this country was meant to be; have elevated him into the upper echelon of the pantheon of American chief executives.
Damnit, I will miss this man!

I call Obama the "Jackie Robertson president". Not so loved while played, but became a hero because of his play and personal style.

But the good that Lyndon Johnson did for this country is remarkable.

(10,500 posts)The country got convinced in the late 60s that being liberal was a bad thing. And then it got worse--much worse--when Reagan was elected.
Obama could barely get the votes to pass Obamacare.
It is crazy how instinctively conservative this country is.

(6,262 posts)My first much later vivid political memory was the radio on in our pink and green kitchen(!) at dinnertime. Stalin was dead! I knew it was important because the radio was on while we ate meatloaf.
The radio was NEVER on unless it was during the day if I was sick at home and Mom listened to Helen Trent soap opera while she worked in the kitchen (pink and green!).
Or else on Sunday, when we gathered to hear The Shadow and other exciting or funny shows.
After all those years, Obama is the first (and probably the last) president I have loved. Really liked JFK and Carter, but truly loved Barack and Michelle. Still do.

(22,665 posts)But he is damn close.
I'd rank William Jefferson Clinton right next to him too.
If only American humans would trust their cause-and-effect judgements more than what RW TV & radio are telling them instead, we'd have more democrats helping promote a better future for us all, rather than do-nothing knuckle dragging republicans and their ass backwards totalitarian way of thinking.

(3,424 posts)Born late 1940s, as a child I barely remember Ike. But I loved President Kennedy. He did a lot of good that people are forgetting and he started many good programs and I remember people feeling energized and hopeful. But as we sadly know, he didn't get to live to accomplish more.
But in my adult life, I love President Obama so much and appreciate him and his family so much! He deserves so much more respect than he has received. He is the best in my adult life for sure.

(5,294 posts)Agree with everything said about Obama. But for me the most inspiring president of my time continues to be Kennedy. I was 10 years old when he was elected and really the first president I was really aware of. Had he lived to serve two terms, the course of history would have been so different and this country would be in a much better place today.

(128,518 posts)and agree that Barack Obama and his family, have done nothing but bring class, grace, and a formidable intellectual spirit to the White House, all while enduring all manner of travail in their attempt to show America at its best.

President Obama is the best---I had goosebumps when I first heard him, and I knew here was an extraordinary person.
I can't bear to think of January.

(518 posts)Obama achieved what JFK merely promised. He did it against a hostile Congress and Supreme Court, and against constant heckling.
More than that, history will give him even more luster since he is sandwiched between Dubya and Donald.
And, yes, Michelle is a splended First Lady. Better than Pat, much better than Nancy, and considerably warmer than Jackie.

(15,533 posts)Born in 1949, but too little to actually remember him being President. I do remember Ike though.
I agree about President Obama. With the right Congress he would have accomplished so much more.
I think one of the reasons this debacle of an election pains me so is because we grew up learning all about civics and how important a great leader can be to our country and now this??? I can honestly say there isn't one redeeming quality about this jackass. Our country is almost unrecognizable to me any more.

I agree Obama is the best POTUS in my lifetime. But, we need to look beyond, to 2020, 2024 etc.
We need strong candidates, candidates that inspire voters.
