although no doubt he finds the prospect of tax savings very seductive. The usual suspects who've been eager to destroy social programs for decades are behind this. As this moves forward, people will be paying big attention. Not just retired folk but the kids who don't really want to double up their kids in one room to free up a room for mom and dad.

From the linked story:

This, for the first time, would allow the Republican majority to ram through cuts to Social Security (among other programs) using a special fast-track process that denies Senate Democrats their normal rights to defend these programs and ensure an adequate opportunity for public input. If Republicans were to pass President-Elect Trump’s tax plan, the resulting increase to the deficit, under this plan, could require cuts to Social Security and Medicare of 13.5 percent, meaning the average Social Security beneficiary would lose more than $2,000 a year.

Stand around & whine that they won the popular vote?

Maybe if the dems had been a true opposition party the past 35 years, instead of drifting to the right every time the media said the word liberal, we wouldn't be in this fucking mess. They told us they had to go right to get votes. They told us to vote for the lesser of two evils & now we have PEOTUS Trump. I have a lot of anger toward the Democratic Party, right now, & zero confidence that they are in any position to do anything about the shitstorm coming our way.

Democrats must own their values, Tea Party-style, not shift even more toward the mushy middle
Polls suggest the public supports Democratic policies, and Hillary Clinton got more votes. So forget moderation!

Seniors are one of the last classes that are available for Republican criminals to steal from. And after our benefits are cut, we'll be forced to get reverse mortgages on our homes at horrible rates, so Wall St can steal our property too. I'm having suicidal thoughts more and more. I am very very frightened!!!

Don't get too frightened, Viyons...I am a senior as well, and please keep in mind that this will probably NOT happen, especially since we've already got the heads up...Take it a day at a time, and, seriously, if you're having thoughts of hurting yourself, you should get professional help. I've done it and it does help. Feel free to send me a pm if you like.

because, to their great sorrow, Social Security is incredibly popular across party lines...As some pundit -- not a D -- pointed out recently, cutting Medicare and Social Security has NO constuency
among anyone beyond the Doner class -- The public doesn't want it.

Think back to other threats against SS and Medicare. The seniors came down on them so hard, they had to back away. Granted, we now have some pretty bitter Republicans on board, but that doesn't scare seniors. They can't come after us all. I am also a senior, but inside, I'm still 38 and a fighter. Join with the rest of us seniors in fighting instead of thinking negative thoughts and we can win. If you give in to their threats and take your own life, they win. Your leaving would be 100% savings for the creeps. We don't want that. We all are frightened, but by staying and fighting together, we can be stronger and support each other. Never forget that DU is here for you.
