Ohio Moves To Ban Abortion 6 Weeks After Conception

That’s before some women even realize they’re pregnant.

WASHINGTON― Ohio’s Republican-led House and Senate passed legislation Tuesday night that would ban abortions as soon as a fetal heartbeat can be detected― as early as six weeks after conception.

The measure was attached at the last minute as an amendment to an unrelated child abuse bill. It has no exceptions for rape or incest.

If it’s passed into law, physicians could face a year in prison if they perform an abortion after a heartbeat is detected or if they fail to check for one before a procedure.

The measure is the most extreme abortion restriction in the country, effectively banning the procedure before most women even realize they’re pregnant, pro-abortion rights advocates said.

It'll eventually get shot down. In the meantime, just another waste of time and resources.

Why do people vote for these idiots?

New Mexico has few restrictions on abortions just like California. Many women from neighboring states have to come to NM.

part of this now, and a women's right to privacy is now in jeopardy, along with civil rights, women's rights, labor rights, environmental rights, healthcare etc.

It is really grim. We are literally at the mercy of a couple of supreme court justices, roberts and kennedy, and I sure wouldn't count on it.

What made it even more disastrous was the every Democrat running for Senate in a swing state, lost to the establishment, republican incumbent.

Outcome in their favor. The rethugs have perfected voter suppression, vote omission and vote flipping and have successfully gotten away with it.

in a fruitless effort to defend a clearly unconstitutional law.
I wonder what Eric Fucking Trump will have to say about this?

“She got a little upset,” State Sen. Kris Jordan said. “Girls do that.”

WASHINGTON ― The Ohio Republican behind the most extreme abortion restriction in the country, which was passed by the State House and Senate Tuesday night, was accused of domestic violence by his wife in 2011.

State Sen. Kris Jordan (R), the lawmaker who introduced Ohio’s ‘heartbeat’ abortion ban, had to answer to deputies after his wife called 911 to report that her husband was “pushing her around and throwing things,” according to The Columbus Dispatch. Deputies drove to the senator’s home, where he told them the domestic dispute was “90 percent emotion.”

“She got a little upset,” Jordan said in a conversation recorded by a dashboard camera on the police cruiser. “Girls do that.”
