WASHINGTON― Ohios Republican-led House and Senate passed legislation Tuesday night that would ban abortions as soon as a fetal heartbeat can be detected― as early as six weeks after conception.
The measure was attached at the last minute as an amendment to an unrelated child abuse bill. It has no exceptions for rape or incest.
If its passed into law, physicians could face a year in prison if they perform an abortion after a heartbeat is detected or if they fail to check for one before a procedure.
The measure is the most extreme abortion restriction in the country, effectively banning the procedure before most women even realize theyre pregnant, pro-abortion rights advocates said.

Why do people vote for these idiots?

I love living in my blue democratic state of California that tries to make life easier for it's citizens.

It is really grim. We are literally at the mercy of a couple of supreme court justices, roberts and kennedy, and I sure wouldn't count on it.
What made it even more disastrous was the every Democrat running for Senate in a swing state, lost to the establishment, republican incumbent.

(8,688 posts)She got a little upset, State Sen. Kris Jordan said. Girls do that.
State Sen. Kris Jordan (R), the lawmaker who introduced Ohios heartbeat abortion ban, had to answer to deputies after his wife called 911 to report that her husband was pushing her around and throwing things, according to The Columbus Dispatch. Deputies drove to the senators home, where he told them the domestic dispute was 90 percent emotion.
She got a little upset, Jordan said in a conversation recorded by a dashboard camera on the police cruiser. Girls do that.
