DEMs need YOUTH

The top three Democrats in leadership are 76 (Pelosi), 77 (Steny Hoyer) and 76 (Jim Clyburn). The average age of the Democratic party leadership is 76. The top three Republican leaders, in contrast, are 46 (Paul Ryan), 51 (Kevin McCarthy) and 51 (Steve Scalise). The average age of the House Republican leadership is 47.Nov 30, 2016

Repubs continue to kick their ass in the House. Whether it's debating or getting the message out in the media

are revered for their age and wisdom...even though they have been getting their asses kicked for a couple of hundred years; but, Democratic leaders are old and weak. Especially if they are women.

3. Well, why don't we just kick them all out and hire a few without experience?

That just plays right into Trump's hands.

I think policy means more to people than age. Elizabeth Warren is no spring chicken and she's very popular

about our old, failing, nearly senile leaders. So let's bring in youngers no matter what their ideology. Tim Ryan, tends conservative, yet certain progressives wanted him because of one single qualification, he's younger.

Yes Tim is more conservative, but he represents the "flyover" region where many felt the election was lost.

My 20 something kiddos were BIG Bernie supporters, as was I. I can tell you Nancy's redo as Caucus Leader (after Dems have lost the past 4 House elections) was totally uninspiring to them and other younger voters.

It is possible to find both experience and a new generation perspective. It's not that Nancy should be voted out on ageism, it's that RADICAL shift needs to happen in the Dem party, and having a mega-millionaire from California does not WIN VOTES! Please tell me what she will do differently this go round to win?

I'd rather win with a moderate Dem, then keep losing with more progressive ones.

On Edit: I voted for Hillary as a passionate vote against the fascist-elect, and would have been thrilled to be voting for Bernie!!! I wish we had a progressive prez, but realistically - to win Ohio et.al. next time, it will not be in the mold of Pelosi.

as with the op, is their age. Further, Nancy's job is not to win votes, though she does or she wouldn't still be in office, it's to push the President's agenda if Dems have the WH, which she did admirably or form the opposition to the Cons, which she is already doing. There's a lot of talk about radical shifts which I attribute to Bernie's influence, who by the way is 75. And, with respect, the contradiction in your post is you talk about a radical shift yet you say you'd "rather win with a moderate Dem, then keep losing with more progressive ones', so I'm not sure where you stand. And yes, lots of the younger voters are disappointed their candidate didn't win, so am I. But let me ask you, how many voted with the dems, how many volunteered. I understand the loss people feel, we all do. But burning down the house isn't going to leave us with anything but ashes. Now there are those (Sarandon etc.) who think that's the answer. In addition I heard a lot of "it's not fair" with this election, it's not fair there are closed primaries, that they couldn't register the same day and so on and so forth. Well as all grown-ups know, life isn't inclined to always be fair. So take responsibility to do one's share and work for change and start with the infrastructure of state houses and city governments. Why is someone like Paul LaPage gov in Maine or Christie in NJ?

Now I didn't intend for my response to go on and on. I'm just getting fed up with finger pointing as solutions and remember how Obama used to say that we are the change we need. So everyone, young, old and in-between need to do their part and stop otherizing
those who are not of their generation.

Any Dem (even a moderate) beats this pile of shit the minority of the population elected (thanks to the EC).

It's not about age (hence my love of Bernie), but winning. I'm close to 60.

On a POSITIVE note, the finger pointing will end and we will come together on 1/20/17. Because on that day the real erosion of our civil liberties will be in our house, and we must pull together to fight for our freedom.

Cheers
