Please don't blame Al Gore for a decision that actually hasn't yet taken place!!! More to the point, Al Gore is a pragmatist who would rather get things done than showboat about stuff.

It's been announced.

I understand not wanting to criticize Gore, but it's dishonest to say that this choice was not made.

"if not before."

Kneejerk reacting to every single event in the Trump misadministration is probably not wise. I realize that you're in a big hurry to shit on Al Gore for meeting with Trump, but just because he isn't standing on top of a building today screaming about the pick doesn't mean that he won't criticize the pick - probably heavily - between now and when the confirmation process starts.

wanting him to do something versus saying bad things about him because he didn't are two different things.

Create as many fronts as humanly possible. How many battles can we fight"
-- A utter moron at HUD
-- Warmongers in in the Pentagon and the NSA
-- A supreme polluter at EPA
-- A vaccine denier at FDA
-- An opponent of a fair minimum wage at Labor
-- A possible Secretary of State on probation
-- An ambassador to Russia with deep business ties to Russia
-- A white supremacist/Nazi as chief of staff
-- Another moron, likely, at VA
-- A president elect who has offended China and embraced a murderous president in the Philippines, and who believes Alex Jones rather than the American intelligence community.
-- Horrific anti-abortion laws in Texas and Ohio
-- Republican majorities in 37 states, and Republican crazies in the other 13
-- White police killing African-Americans with impunity
-- White supremacists taking action against bogus and insane non-threats

It's like the old Bizarro Superman comics, or Opposite Day from when my kids were young. Everything single thing is fucking backwards. The damage they can do, and probably will do, is inestimable. How many fronts can we battle at once?

Why lose Trump's ear on climate matters over a decision that they can't change? It's going to be a long 4 years and I'd rather they burn that bridge after trying all they could not over a cabinet pick that can't be stopped.

And has in all likelihood passed or is now passing the point of no return for catastrophic climate change. Our ability to stay under 2C of warming like the Paris Accord called for is most likely in the rearview mirror now.

4 years from now, we'll have dug ourselves in so deep there will be no climbing back out.

Human beings have never seen atmospheric CO2 values that are so high as they are today. They significantly predate our species — even preceding our distant relative Australopithecus by about 7 million years. And weather and climate conditions to which we are not adapted — either as individuals or as a civilizations — are well on the way as atmospheric CO2 levels are ramping up into the lower range of those last seen during the Middle Miocene of 14-16 million years ago at 404 parts per million during 2016.

As we reported in November, 2016 is on track to see a record rate of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) increase. A key heat-trapping gas, CO2 is the primary driver of the big temperature increases seen around the world recently. And with new figures out from NOAA for the month of November, we have a clearer picture than ever of just how unprecedented the jump will be.

For the first 11 months of the year, 2016 atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations exceeded those of 2015 by an average of 3.45 parts per million. With no sign evident that the pace of increase has slackened — despite a transition to La Nina during the fall — it now appears that the world is set to experience a 3.3 to 3.5 part per million jump in the atmospheric CO2 measure for this year.

The only thing left that MAY actually start making a difference is to get emotional about what the science is telling us:

http://grist.org/climate-energy/please-scientists-tell-us-how-you-really-feel-about-climate-change/

The question is not whether Americans know climate change is happening. It’s about whether Americans can truly know this so long as the worst of it is only happening to “certain other vulnerable” groups. Until we change the language around who those certain others are, and how they got that way, then most Americans will know climate change only as that thing that happened that one year on television to those poor communities in Brooklyn.

There is no compromise or pragmatism with trump's agenda or with Pruitt in his cabinet. This is not "business as usual".

Fuck this "reach across the aisle" nonsense. So tired of this rolling on our backs and exposing our bellies to these fascist.

Trump is a narcissistic, racist, bigoted and xenophobic fascist and sexual predator. We are either united in our fight against his agenda or we will all become a victim of it.

They can't say they didn't try, though it's cold comfort at best.

Beyond that, I don't see anything from here on out from Gore or anyone else in the environmental community except for "Fuck you, Don. You're the business genius - figure it out without our help."
