Is "America" gone?

With the election of a corporate reality star and all the backward corporate people he's appointing, the voting rights backslide, the deaths of so many of our men of color and their future potential, the talk of letting our sick and elderly fend for themselves, the general meanness of many "Americans", and now, the death of John Glenn (a hero of mine as are all those that are courageous enough to be blasted into space)...where are we as a country? I read today about how huge, national corporate money is infiltrating and influencing state and local politics and policy. It feels like a tidal wave of greed has overtaken us, and we are drowning...and we are largely unaware of our eminent demise.

Have we turned some corner of capitalism and greed? Have we as a country lost the courage and curiosity to do big things? The ACA was a big thing, but it will soon be gone and we'll be lucky if something small replaces it. Are we, as "Americans", big anymore?

It seems to me that we keep getting smaller and less significant in this world.

I don't think we are exceptional anymore in any specific area except greed and smallness of character.

We have made strides in the right direction for spans of time, but it seems to be 1 step forward and 2 steps back.

Am I just having a bad day or am I just one of many that have the same questions?

as a people. Courageous enough to hold a light up to the lack of civil rights that some of our neighbors were suffering from, and change minds about it...slowly, for sure, I really thought we, as Americans, were better than we are.

And I can't even imagine how medical, educational, and scientific national funding will fare going forward.

I'm not spending any extra pennies. Just going to lay low and see what it means. I honestly don't see how we get through the next four years without a major calamity or two on the economic and national security fronts. IOW, I don't think you're alone.

Calls to govt reps, signing petitions, trying to change hearts and minds...all seems like banging one's head against a brick wall.

I'm not giving up and I know you aren't either. But my question is...how long can we tread water?

The winners in the near term are the Corporation's and the 1%ers,and of course the 99%ers will take the hit. We are seeing the return of Reaganomics Part 2,and with that,my guess is the Romney 47% will be hit the hardest.

We as a Nation will pay dearly for ever electing Obama, the far right and the Nationalist's will not let us forget.

The Republican Party will drive our Economy off the Cliff by this time next year. We seem to make the same mistake of trusting a Republican Majority to take the reins every 80 years and wreck the Nations Economy followed by Wars. Old unworkable ideals never die, they are just repackaged propaganda a resold as the best thing since what ever.

I'm not sure about the soul of "America"...the character, empathy, and morality of "Americans". The glitter, celebrity, and money just seems to have taken our soul.

And I'm sure that if we let the sick and elderly fend for themselves, many will die. If we let them die, what is left of "America" to save? We "Americans" will have no soul left.

How can we prevent this tidal wave of inhumanity to drown this country?

Money before people mentality shows a lack of character, in my opinion...and will, again in my opinion, usher in the demise of this country.
