The Trump "Presidency" has resulted in an Andy Borowitz who is no longer amusing.

Some of you may know who's behind the Facebook page "Conservative Clown Car."

The tone is similar to DU, they occasionally post some DU content, and maybe it's a even a DUer who is running it.

They post a LOT of Andy Borowitz. I don't keep track...they may actually post every single new piece he writes.

I've noticed something since the election...the reality of Trump's "Presidency" has resulted in a consistent stream of Borowitz pieces that just aren't funny, like "Sarah Palin Named As Director Of Literacy," because what Trump is actually doing is far more outrageous than any "satire" scenario Borowitz is laying out.

It feels like he's going for the obvious, the low-hanging fruit, and he's lost his "edge," because the sheer insanity of Trump's "reality" is far more outrageous and mind-numbing than anything within Borowitz's creative ability to "one-up" him.

It reminds me of the legendary Nicolas Cage SNL skit, "Tiny Elvis," where a miniature "E" is sitting around with his "Memphis Mafia" and pointing at things like a pencil and saying "Hey, you see that pencil? MAN, that's a big ol' pencil" and everyone chuckles and says "You got that right, E!"

These days, Borowitz is pointing at pencils and telling us "MAN, that's a big pencil."

That's pretty frigging sad, folks, because while I have never been a full-bore Borowitz "groupie," I'll occasionally chuckle over the wit and insight I've seen in many of his pre-Trump pieces.

These days, I'm not seeing a lot of wit and insight.

It's like the Alec Baldwin SNL impression...I've loved every segment he's done. What's going to happen when Trump really fucks up, and people suffer for it? At some point, Trump will go beyond the point where satire of his actions helps restore our sanity. Baldwin already had a moment of disgust where he said something like "the basis of good satire is that you have to like the person to some degree, or admire them, and I don't." That's what we have going on with Trump. He won't be funny at all once he assumes power.

I think Borowitz's current writing is a precursor of that.

Just my opinion.
