This guy cried on the senate floor while breaking ranks to oppose Bolton as UN Ambassador under W's watch. Arguably, #2 at State is more powerful...especially with an incredibly un-involved, un-informed POTUS in the WH.

Bolton fits the profile of what many were worried about that Trump would upend the world order, throwing old alliances out the window, and creating chaos while relying on brute force to maintain our interests. Bolton wanted to cut off the top half of the UN building. Bolton is not a diplomat, he's just unsympathetic hard ass in an administration full of them.

You would think we wouldn't take huge risks....that we would keep our top dog status and reinforce, rather than re-organize through unpredictable chaos
