Bernstein says Trump's lies worse than Nixon's

Carl Bernstein, whose reporting broke open the Watergate scandal that led to former President Nixon's resignation, said Sunday that Nixon's lies were nothing compared to Donald Trump's.


"Trump lives and thrives in a fact-free environment. No president, including Richard Nixon, has been so ignorant of fact and disdains fact in the way this president-elect does," Bernstein said on CNN's "Reliable Sources."
Bernstein also slammed what he called a "growing sense of authoritarianism" from Trump and his campaign.

"Richard Nixon was nothing, in terms of lying, compared to what we have seen from Donald Trump," he said.

The topic's real, yes, but are we giving this guy a free pass on his own part in electing Trump?

Let's face it, this is a man who kept his name out of the grave and pushed sales of his latest book on all the shows that would give him exposure by hitting their theme -- "untrustworthy, unlikeable Hillary," by drawing an outrageous false equivalency between Hillary's emails and Nixon's giant Watergate felonies.

As liars go, Bernstein may not be in Trump's category, but he has become a corrupt, opportunistic liar who sold his journalistic soul to keep membership in the insiders' club, no hero.

15. Nixon is pretty tough to beat in the evil department

He deliberately dragged the Vietnam War out for four more years in order to ensure his re-election. That war could have and would have ended in 1968 if Nixon hadn't sabotaged, through third parties, the Paris Peace Talks. He did that because he thought LBJ was trying to end the war to get Humphrey elected. That was how utterly vindictive Nixon was.

He is still the worst president we ever had because he committed something that was beyond the pale. ALL of those people died just so Nixon could get elected and re-elected.

It would be difficult for Trump to be worse, but he hasn't gotten in the WH yet. If the EC acted honorably, he wouldn't get in there at all.
