Former Russia Today anchor Liz Wahl told CNN that the goal of the Russian media is to create disinformation to undermine democracy and faith in institutions.
Said Wahl: I mean, that is the main goal of Russian disinformation, whether it be through their television channels, whether it be through other measures like hacking, like their legions of paid trolls. That is the ultimate goal is to undermine democracy, to undermine faith in our institutions, like the media.
She added: And I think thats the point of Russian media, Russian disinformation has been happening for years now. But people didnt really take it seriously.

I think the aim is to make the world a safe place for psychopaths to function in. The ICC and other human rights organizations, and the nations that back them (the west), are the enemies.

The Economist: These latest revelations have probably not changed any minds at all. Republicans who hate Mrs Clinton are still delighted that she was defeated. Democrats who loathe and fear Mr Trump have one more reason to dislike him. Outside Washington, red-blooded Americans who mostly rather dislike President Vladimir Putin, according to polls, seem to be shrugging off the latest allegations: President-elect Trump was loudly cheered by spectators when he turned up in Baltimore on December 10th to watch the Army-Navy football game, an annual pageant of patriotism.
And that is what is, or should be, so unsettling. Russian interference in elections across the Western world is like a nasty virus, attacking the body politic. Normally, America is protected by powerful, bipartisan immune responses against such a menace. It also boasts some of the worlds most sophisticated intelligence and cyber-defenses, and when spooks tell the Republicans and Democrats who lead Congress and sit on the House and Senate intelligence committees of hostile acts by a foreign power, love of country generates a unified response. That immune response is not kicking in this time.
This squabble does matter. When the next president of America takes his oath of office in January, officers of Russian intelligence can savour a historic win. And that astonishing, appalling fact has divided, not united, the two parties that run the worlds great democracy. That should be enough to unsettle anyone.

(35,197 posts)That's the ideology. It includes a lot of things that (D) in the West don't like, and a lot that (R) in the West don't like. It is an ideology--and one that's nationalistic in a funny supra-national sort of way.
Except that until now (D) haven't been willing to listen even as there's talk of cultural diversity and differences--apparently they're just trivial things like language and food, not real substantive differences in outlook. Russia's been a "foe" for a long time. Denials of this were inane and continue to show a singular lack of perspective (or, rather, a singularly focused perspective on one's own navel). "Resets" are respites for them. Blather versus bullets isn't close to taking a knife to a gunfight--it's more akin to taking a feather duster to a gunfight.
Now, the first time it happens it's ridiculous. The second time it's grounds for a psych eval. We're at 4 or 5, and still insist we're sane and the right gestures with the feather duster will make all the problems vanish.

(13,081 posts)Is that "people are all the same" and other such tripe. While most people do have at least a few things in common, and obviously most of us have biology in common, "we're all the same" is actually the exact opposite of multiculturalism.
We're not all the same. Multiculturalism is largely about realizing the fact that we're not all the same, being open to that fact, and then accepting & embracing our differences.
